Hi everyone this is my first post on the forums so please point out if i do anything wrong :)

Right to the point of this post, my 18th birthday is coming up next week and i have asked for money to build myself a new PC, i have been looking at what hardware i would like to get which i will list below:

Case: CM Storm Stryker
Power Supply: Corsair AX series
Cooling: H100i
CPU: 3570k or 3770k depending on how much money i have
RAM: Corsair Dominator Platinum not sure how many GB yet
Motherboard: haven't decided would like suggestions, something with good overclocking potential but doesn't break the bank
Graphics: Thinking of the GTX 660 but open for suggestions

The question i have is should i wait for the new IvyBridge-E??

I would also like any tips and tricks you may have as this will be my first proper computer build and first time using brand new parts

Antony :)
Xbox GT: xiLe MaNiK Steam: xiLe MaNiK

what will the purpose of the rig be? also since the 3770k is the max of your budget you won't be able to afford IB-E, that will be 500€+ for the worst IB-E CPU. imo go for it now, haswell won't release before june and IB-E even later afaik.
for the mobo just get an asus p8z77 board (there are several versions for any budget), or an MSI board.

I will use the rig for college work and gaming, i may also be doing some 3D design and CAD work in the near future.
Thanks for the info about IvyBridge-E i will probably go for the 3570k on that basis.

honestly if your getting a 660 and a 3770k is top of budget, dont even bother looking at the Ivy-E its out of your price range

I'm not sure what they cost but Dominator Platinums sound awful expensive.

Given that ram overclocking yields very little in terms of performance I would just go with a Vengeance kit and save yourself some cash for a better GPU.

Not that there's anything wrong with a GTX 660 but the rest sounds pretty high end so you would be better off with a 7950 or a 670 IMO.

Best board for the money on 1155 ATM (rated best buy by CPC) is the one I have.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/MSI-Z77A-G4...GVUA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1362601843&sr=8-1

Performs the same as any other mid or high end Z77 board at much less money, and has SATA III and USB III.

I'd be going with an i5 3570k and a 7950, but depending on how much 3D/CAD you'll be doing you might want to look into a i7; but again just from a pricing standpoint a i5/7950 is much more balanced, and you have a big jump up from the 660.

For sure. The I7 will do very little in games that the I5 won't.

A gaming PC imo should be based on the stuff games need (like 4 cores and a good GPU).

Plan to get 8gb of 1600MHz @ 1.5v or lower. Anything more than that is a little bonus but not worth sacrificing other components for.

I'd say you need a 3770K and a decent GPU first (anything 7870/660ti upwards would be good). You may choose to sacrifice the i7 for the i5 3570k to get more GPU.

Thanks i will probably get an Nvidia card, not to keen on AMD have had problems with them before.

both have their problems. if you want to run a multimonitor setup some day i'd recommend an AMD card though, their memory bus is bigger, the nvidia cards would struggle.

Hi Anthony1995,
Welcome to the forums.
The Corsair Dominator Platinums have dropped a bit in price since they first came out but they still are quite expensive compared to others out there. On newegg they have 2 x 4gb ddr3 1866 Platinums for $100 but you could get Corsair Vengence 2 x 4gb ddr3 1866 for $64 . Or you could go with a different manufacturer and maybe get something better. Just something to think about.

What color scheme have you thought about going with?

By the way , early Happy Birthday to you.

Thank you for the birthday wish :)
I will start with the theme,
Blue is my favorite colour so that was always going to be the main focus point, iv'e been back and fourth between whether to incorporate that into a black or white system and i am still a little undecided, but atm i am favoring more towards a white system to show of the colour better. I also like the chrome/reflective affect you get with some products, that's why i was thinking of the Dominator Platinum RAM because 1) it performs well 2) it looks amazing.

With the RAM though iv'e been looking at the Vengeance 1600 Mhz kits and they are looking like more of a better/cheaper option.
