Man I had a cr@p night last night....
Here's the sad tale ot two PSU's and my PC:
I am having to RMA my Antec Neo Power as it seems to have weak 3.3v Rails. Fine, no problems.
I bought a cheap New PSU that seemed ok (but I didn't have any hopes).
As the RMA will have to be done soon I though I'd try the new PSU in my system...fine.
Put it in (very carefully but the XP-120 is hard to get the PSU in with) and started up no probs. Checked the Rails and they were pretty bad so I thought I'd take the New PSU back and see if I can find a better one for around the same price.
So I put in my old PSU (carefully) and booted up and then re-started my OC slightly lower than what it was for stability. Merrily playing away in Firefox and the screen freezes. *sighs*
Held the off button, rebooted and nothing...well the fans span and the motherboards lights came on and I got no signal on the screen.
I though I'd try narrowing it down so I removed all components apart from vid card and HDD. Booted fine. Added one after another componenet and it booted fine. Tried some CS:S with Jim and Dave and it froze up again....just stopped with the same image on the screen. When I rebooted I got the same thing....fans and everything start up but no picture and they don't slow down (after the BIOS kicks in to stop them)
Put in the New crapper PSU and it booted with just the HDD and vid card. Tried adding any fans and it did the no POST thing. Also had various stages where it wouldn't go to post when I had one fan plugged in, just to the BIOS front screen.
Now I'm RMA'ing my PSU anyway but I don't really fancy living with my PC open on the floor with only the HDD and vid card plugged in (it works fine like this, can play CS:S etc) with my FSB set to standard.
Any ideas?
PC's gotta love 'em....and hate 'em!
:ar:
