Basically according to creative i cannot use the digital in hole on the back of my soundcard (i have a coaxial to 3.5mm convertor running from my decoder into the digital jack hole) http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0000A4F27?vi=reviews

Those are my speakers

Now I have this problem that the digital "hole" is also the mic hole (wtf were they thinking???) so how am I going to use my mic at the same time as say - gaming for example. I emailed creative and I got this

Oh great an extra £70 ontop of my £50...I may as well got the creative platinum initially

Surely there are other ways such as a magical cable or decoder that allows it.

Im at a total loss. I'm getting some medusa 5.1s for christmas so hopefully the box decoder thingy will allow me to do something about this issue.  Silly creative

Yeah craziness  You'd think that they'd say somewhere on the box, that if you intend to run digital speakers and a headset with mic you may be better off buying the dearer platinum model.

Sorry, that really sucks, but I can say that that front expansion bay rocks, a friend of mine has it and he has so much stuff hooked up it is not even funny.

You would only need the door open when you use the mic or am I wrong?

@Ham, for all we know they could be completely different or identical, just no way of telling.

I have the one Ham depicts on ebay.

Looking at the specs from the creative pov, they have remastered the mobo and logic therein, but the cabling looks the same lol. All the sample rates and stuff are upgraded and so on.

The biggest question would have to be, although u can plug them together, will the card have the inteligence to pick up the fact it`s different.

If it requires the card to figure out it is different they wouldn't do it, remember Creative want you to buy all new stuff.

Ya that`s true, they even painted it black to let u know it`s different.

On another note, the remote control looks different - but I couldn`t swear that it has more buttons, they just look re-arranged and the handset moulded differently.

And then again, if the digital to analogue and vice versa is dealt with on the Drive, the card may not care what does the conversions as long as the conversions are done.

Some1 somewhere must have tried it.

Or you could just buy a USB mic eh? :)

So the Creative cards don't have auto-sending jacks that let you decide what each jack is for? The AudioMax riser card from abit lets me assign whatever I want to any of the ports (besides the optical ports). I can't believe a Creative card would do this to ya.

So u reckon it will work? Any news on the googling for compatability?

I spose ill only use a mic with my headset so there should b much of an issue but its an annoyance all the same

Well... in the ultimate of ultimate way of looking at sound waves, an analogue wave can be perfect, a digital one is always going to be squared, and then smoothed in a fashion. The better the hardware, the better the fashion.

It all depends on u`r delivery and method.
