The Phantom Bee

So I have finally installed my new HIS hd 7950 into my loop. It as went Quite smoothly, considering it is my first go at a full cpu / gpu loop, then again I only done my first cpu loop, last week. It is all connected and am in the process of leak testing. That's the bit I don't like. Here are a couple of pics, I'm chuffed how neat I managed to get the hose, nice and tight lines.

I have some yellow coil I'm unsure on, I no it is usually a no no, but when you get my idea of the theme it might make sense.

My theme came from the Avexir ram, the lights look like the heart beat of the rig, with everything being black the only light is on the ram and maybe in the res and block. So the yellow of the coil will look like the life blood of the rig. That is where the name the Phantom Bee came from too, I have had the knick name Stung, for almost 30 years, and with the black and yellow, the obvious choice was a bee, and with the case being a Phantom. The Phantom Bee was born.

I'm terrible with thinking of names so, it kind of came together by accident. I think it kinda fits. I'll post better pics when, she is all buttoned up and running, this old laptop sucks.

It's kinda nice to see a rig wandering from the "advice sections" to the build logs and then finally to the gallery with the more or less finished product (insofar as our builds are ever truly finished ).

This has come together quite nicely since I first saw it. That totally horizontal hose looks the balls! And the top rad fits in nice and snug.

Curious to see how those two top fans will perform.

Cheers mate. I ended up going with 3 old fans I had knocking about, 1 Lepa, 1 corsair and a Lian li. With the 3 180's there was more air flow around the rad than going through it. I've got 3 matching Akasa'a on order, as well as the 2nd 6 pin that I forgot all about.

I've got an idea brewing for a psu cover, and a full cover for the drive bays, and the Monsta, all in one piece. I'm just trying to figure out the air flow coming from the front rad. I can't make my mind up on what color acrylic to use, black or yellow, I'm kinda leaning towards yellow, to break up the black. Plus all the yellow atm, is up top, you can't tell from the pics but the ram glows loads, also the 3 fans when they come. The problem will be too much yellow then.

Maybe when my supposed to be secret res comes, a pressy off the OH, a custom 3 spiral frozen Q 250mm ( green , black , green , the green is yellow until uv hits it ) it's costing her a fortune about $170. The res is going to be mounted on the drive bay cover .

Haha, yeah that's the thing with fluids: They will take the path of least resistance, those pesky buggers

Nice idea! Looking forward to results.

Yep those pesky "fluids" ;) should of heard the noise they made, my god, my dog ran out scarred senseless.

I've got about 3 sheets of mm brushed ally knocking about, well my mate has in his shed. I think I'll try it first, sprayed with black engine paint. It gives it a nice anodised look.

No quotes required, air actually is a fluid, just a gaseous and not a liquid one *pedanticeducatormodedisabled* ;)

EDIT:
I just realized it is of course entirely possible you actually know this and just made a joke which I, in my infinite wisdom, did not get
/EDIT

Poor dog, mine is luckily not so much scarred of loud household appliances (e.g. vacuum cleaner), but if there's thunder or fireworks (or gunshots) outside he'll run and hide his 80 lbs like the world is about to end :o.

No I didn't no mate, just be a sarky git. That's why my dog is so jumpy. I brought him home the day before bonfire night , and my neighbor, I live in a 4 block of flats, on the bottom, decided it would be funny to set some fireworks off in front of my window. He hasn't been right with noises since. Any noise sets him off, load bass when I'm gaming he wants to sit on my lap. When a 7 stone 10 month old bulldog, wants up on you he usually wins.

Just had to look up how many kg one stone converts to (contrary to popular belief, I actually do not know everything. Yet.) , and that's quite a dog to have on your lap!

As a side note, I just realized I used lbs instead of kg for my dog's weight, why the hell would I do that? I live in a bloody metric country! It would appear the internet has finally ruined me. I just never figured it would be over something like units. :banghead:

Interestingly, my dog does not care at all about bass, gunshots/thunder etc. in movies, games and so on. He full well realizes that it's not coming from outside and does not care at all.

But may the gods have mercy if he hears one pop outside. He never jumps on my lap though, he just goes and hides in the darkest place of our flat. Or, if we're outside, takes off running towards home, waits around the next corner until he has me in sight again and continues running until next corner etc. Since he's usually very obedient and easy to handle (no problems with other dogs or people) I rarely have him on a leash, so if there's a surprise gunshot or something I may not be close enough to stop him right away. And a scared dog is not an obedient dog, regardless of training and/or character.

EDIT:
Just to be clear on the gunshots: I don't live in a very criminally active neighborhood (quite the opposite), but there are quite a few shooting galleries and a lot of guns here in Switzerland (some of them even in my room ), and we live very close to a forest in which there is hunting from time to time. So yeah, lots of guns and shooting, not a lot of crime (well, not the sort committed with guns, anyway, but we do have lots of bankers, so...).

I like that the yellow in this rig doesn't appear to be the dominating color, and there's just enough of it for it to really pop. If I were you I would leave the yellow coil out all together, but that's just me. It looks really good as is!

Yep he's going to be a big boy. He is so chest heavy, he can't jump he more bounces. He is one of the softest things you could ever meet. Inteligent when he wants to be, but gormless most of the time.

The amount of times I have ended up on my arse when he jumps up. A few weeks ago, he decided he wanted to jump up, and wallop over we went. So I picked myself and the chair up, only to find the back had snapped.

I agree mate the coil is a no go, once the other set of fans are on the top rad, I think that will be enough. That was my thinking with the yellow, there isn't much on the motherboard, so I didn't want to add much, more of an accent just to brake it up a bit. It still seems to be lacking in something, I think maybe some yellow lower down ? I won't really tell until she is all re wired and tidied up. I have even thought about maybe adding a couple of yellow strands on the cables, if I can find the right yellow.

I'm assuming you mean the chair's back...

My buddy doesn't really jump/bounce all that much anymore, he'll soon be 13.5 years old. Luckily, he's still in good health (and I'm hoping it stays like that for a while longer), just not as fit as he once used to be (he's a cross breed b/w Newfoundlander and Appenzeller Sennenhund, max. life expectancy ~16 years if things go perfect).

Anyway, on topic:

I concur re the yellow coil.

Something that just popped into my mind though: Maybe (just maybe) paint the GPU block. To be specific: Paint the rim and the visible top part of the copper black, paint the face plate black, and paint the rim (just the rim) of the face plate yellow. It would add a touch more yellow, and the surrounding black would really make it pop out, but it would not be all that much additional actual yellow surface area.

As an example of painting a GPU block, see this post from OC3D's NZXSPC (one of my favourite builds in general, by the way), although that's mono-color.

I was thinking that mate, but black, It didn't enter my mind to paint it yellow. The copper rim, just looks out of place. It really stands out, in person, the 2 fittings, even kinda catch the copper reflection and look copper, at certain angles.I'll check out that post cheers mate.

I have just finally got round to connecting her up. All driver removed, and swept, for any remnants, and the 13.1 re installed. It was all pretty painless, and I must say, it's nice to have my rig back. Instead of the poor excuse for a laptop. Time to have some fun. My Crysis 3 download code has just come in, so loads a fun

Cheers mate, i'm chuffed to bits how the loop turned out. I already don't like the block, so am on the look out for a Raystorm to match the cpu, Was my first choice but couldn't source on anywhere. Typical, there in stock in 3 places now, bloody hell.

Here's the Razor for HD7950/7970 cards.

I'm not really liking the look of that though.

I'd consider one of these:

Cheers!

Both nice blocks, but, the copper on the razer no, that's why I don't like my current block, and the heatkiller, unsure if I like it or not. If i don't go for the Raystorm, it would either be the koolance, or the Swiftech Komodo.

a quick update pic all, connected, and running like a dream.I just need to wait for the fans, and 2nd 6 pin to arrive, then think about a psu, and drive bay cover. I hope Crysis 3 hurries up and downloads so I can try out this new gpu.

XSPC doesn't make raystorm blocks for GPUs mate.
It's the "New Style" Razor block you're looking for, and they don't seem to be available.
Just saw the Swiftech Komodo, they look the danglies :p

yep my bad, the razer, they are in stock in a couple of places. The Swiftech are sexy. A bit pricey though, but they do come with the back plate

My temps are so far doing good, whilst I'm browsing the gpu is sitting at 30 , 27 , 29 , 31, and the gpu is at 28. I haven't gone into any bechies yet, I'm too busy downloading crysis 3
