The Overclocking Gods Hate Me

Ok i've been triyng to overclock my E6400 as high as i cna, and i've seen people get up to 3.2 mostly and a few people claiming 3.5+.

But i cant get higher than 2.6 stable. and 2.8 not stable(so pretty useless)

here is my set up

C2D E6400

AW9D-Max Newest BIOS

OCZ Reaper PC9200 1150Mhz

Scythe Infinity Cooler

XFX 8800 GTS

3 Harddrives (2 320 in RAID0 and one sepreate for backup)

2 19inch Widescreen Acer LCD Moniters

right now i have it at

330 Clock

cpu 1.5 V

Memory 2.3 V (Its rated to work at that)

1:1

PSB 1333

1.7 NB volt thing

Im trying to remember this all from memory, so i think im pretty accurate.

So pleasee someone help me.

Also, before i was able to get alot higher, but i had my NB to 2.0 Volts, beause i saw someone else had that, but then i relized later, that he only had it that high, cuz he had a 30mm fan attached that kept it cool, i lowered it down to 1.7 right away after that. Is it possible that i damaged it anyway fromt he heat?

Thanks in advance for everyones help

change your divider too keep you ram at around the 1000mhz DDR2 range while overclocking the cpu.

Keeping it at 1:1 isn't going to happen. Most high end ddr2 kits top out at around 300mhz real.

i had it set to 800, which was 4:5 i think, not to sure, and didn't seem to work good. Wouldn't restart and stuff.

When i have it like that, it cycles htough, but it stops at

C3, which is "Expand compressed memory BIOS code to DRAM"

someone helppppp lol

300mhz real??? typo?

Anyway simply change your divider if it doesn't have that maybe it has options like "sync" or stuff some use different settings, should work.

i've tried sooo many differnt settings and nothinggg, i dont know if its the CPU that might be damaged or the board, or i dunno.

Im gettin a Q6600 tomorrow, so if i can get that better, i know its the CPU, and if i cnat, i know it teh board.

So wish me luck, i'll post back when i find out.

Thats the clock speed, i have it at 2.7Ghz which is pretty good, but i see people going up to 3.2 and higher

I had 667mhz ram, and i thought that was the reason, so i got the OCZ reaper 1150mhz ones, cuz i thought it would help me get higher, but it didn;t really do anything.

Urm, no. You think DDR2 overclocked to a rated 1200mhz is actualy running @ 600? Its not.

OP: If you've indeed tried every setting combo, Id put it down to a combo motherboard and cpu from what you've described.

975 wasn't a fantastic overclocker for lower multi CPUs, and a combo of bad chip + motherboard could be the cause for the medium overclock.

yes, it is.

BeagleBoy, quadcore & 975X chipset isn't a good combo for fsb clocking so you are likely only to get low-middle 300s with that setup too.

Ive never heard of 1200 being 300?

Sure you aren't getting that confused with quad pumped FSB??? 1200 WOULD be 300 in that case, for ram its just halved.

Ive been over this numerous times so ill let other writers do it for me this time.

Its primary benefit is the ability to operate the external data bus twice as fast as DDR SDRAM. This is achieved by improved bus signaling, and by operating the memory cells at half the clock rate (one quarter of the data transfer rate), rather than at the clock rate as in the original DDR.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DDR2_SDRAM

Consequently, DDR2-400 has an internal speed of 100Mhz, DDR2-533 is at 133Mhz and DDR2-667 will use 166Mhz, and so on.This also begins to explain how DDR2 can run faster yet use considerably less power, 1.8v to DDR's 2.5.

Get it?

It is semi misleading imo. These values put after the PC or DDR tend to make the person think it`ll automagically go higher, with ease.

What does the EPP "really" mean ? I know they`re extra profiles to the spd, but I`m not so sure that they are always achievable - but then I aint exactly Ham with a pc.

I just installed some of that stuff into another build, it's on the SLI RAM and they're effectively just performance profiles for overclocks from my understanding. In the BIOS you can choose an overclock level and the RAM autoadjusts.

Tis weird to me. I see the likes of epp in cpuz showing values for certain ram of 533, and it`s listing of timings underneath. And yet I notice if u step too far over 400 it begins to break down. From where I look at it, the 533, if it`s capable, should be achievable - no ?

As far as i gathered it was like Asus AI booster or that awful gigabye program. Basically auto overclocking, but for ram timings, and firmware rather than software.

AKA. Another thing to turn off...
