Yup. I originally bought the q6600 as I knew future games were quad core > crysis etc.

Looking at those results, lost planet - a game that allows multi core optimisation - WOW! q6600 @ 3.6 annihilates the 6850 clocked a 3.8.

Once overclocked the quad beats the 6850 in all aspects.

Once more multi core games come out you'll be well away with a quad.

I'm getting rid of the 6850 and going for another q6600. I was lured away by the big numbers 4.0ghz+.

The only thing I found the 6850 to be faster in is super pi. I don't play super pi very often or for long...

What phase unit are you getting? Grey mole? Ham?

SP 1m on a 4ghz 6850 was 11/12secs... SP 1m on a q6600 at 3.6/7 was 14secs.

That is a single core execute tho, as u r aware.

The chips do handle multi cored apps differently, so SuperPI isn`t a great reflection.

A single core extremely over clocked Athlon (for example) may beat em both, but u would get one.

In terms of benchmarks though that was the only one that wasn't the quads friend.

I'm moving to vista too to get the multi core benefits, and dx10 will be nice

I`ll be in the same boat soon enough. But it`s kinda frustrating to aquire the best hardware u can achieve and have to use software in the form of an OS that will lose some of the benefits before u run anything.

Slimline Vista as much as u can imo.

Its a double edged sword. I held off a long time but to get the most from a quad core and dx10 i need vista, of course, I'll lose performance in some areas, but gain in others.

Sure once I get vista i'll document the slimming down process... The gains Rast will be from the efficient usage of 4 cores through vista and future games.

Well I was going to make a thread about that actually - I was going to go 32 bit to avoid any driver troubles but wondered about that memory re-map that allows you to see more of the ram (in 32 bit)

Definately sounds interesting...be careful while slimming ur vista - mine went spazzo wen i took out wmplayer and a few other things!

me on the other hand may go back to xp till sp1...its doing my nut in...100% pf useage on company of heroes causing unplayable fps...-.-

Hah, don't get me started on Vista. I have had enough of microsofts games.

But more cores does sound good, as long as we get support for them.

I have yet to see an OS make good use of Dual Core.

Vista damn near requires a dual core if you want it to run at it's full potential. I've got Vista running on my moms office computer which is a clocked up P4 rig and it runs decent at best.

My DC rigs, past and present, slaughter Vista.
