The Fallout : New Vegas excite-o thread.

I have probably made it clear now how I feel about Fallout 3. It's firmly seated at the number one position in my all time games.

It takes a lot for me to say that about any game tbh. More so because I had no idea what it was when it came out. I had never played either of the originals (ignoring the poo one) and didn't even get it near release day. IIRC some one kept going on about it in the December of 2008 and just to shut them up and humour them I downloaded it illegitimately.

It took a while for me to 'get' it because I had never played anything quite like it before (I am not a fan of RPG ever so this was quite a pleasant surprise).

I soon learned that with a game like this you shouldn't skip the cut scenes and dialogue. It cost me the use of VATS and the beginning was immensely frustrating. However, once you get to grips with it it all comes together like that super duper threesome with the two most beautiful women you have ever seen.

I went on to buy the collector's edition in the lunch box AND all of the DLC. I don't like Zeta I thought it was utter crap but other than that they are the most worthy purchases I have made in gaming ever.

Since then I have played through the game four times. Once as a clueless chuffwit, once as an evil woman (black widow perk FTW), once as a kind woman and then as a kind male. I have lived in Megaton, Tenpenny and wherever I could find a bed and a storage locker (nice appartment in downtown DC if you look hard enough ;) )

I am now on my fifth playthrough. Each time I get better and each time I manage it faster.

So, moving on then. Fallout : New Vegas. This has to be my most anticipated release ever .

Speaking to many Fallout 3 fans it's clear that Obsidian just need to give us more of the same only different. And that is exactly what they have on the agenda. I shall update this thread with any news and info I find (Facebook fan, Bethesda newsletter and so on).

What's super cool is that I unknowingly (at the time) visited Bethesda Point Lookout and Dott's Diner. They are all in Maryland USA where I lived for a short time with a friend of mine. Obviously Bethesda is where they got their namesake from and it resides about 20 miles south of DC. So they're obviously natives. Point Lookout is in the Chesapeake area. A beautiful and sprawling national park. Dott's Diner is close by :)

As you can see I am obsessed with the game and will no doubt be glued to any sequels.

A few days ago I got my friend (the one in MD USA) to pre order this for me and it will be making its way over on a 2 day Fedex in October. I have repeatedly tried to find it for pre order here in the UK but even Bethesda are not answering my calls. However I do remember what the PC version cost here on release and it was north of £130. Sod that.

How long does an average playthrough take you out of curiosity?

I meant to buy it and give it a crack as I love RPGs but the fact I have loadsa games still to play and the fact I hadn't played the first two meant I kept putting it off.

With all of the DLC and a load of others about 70 hours IIRC. But it will seem like 70 minutes

Gutted. Mine is glitchy as hell. Stuttering all over the place. Might just be the crack I'm using though. (NO I did NOT say that, it's all in your head! I did NOT download it!

Just another reason why piracy sucks

Nothing beats buying and installing a legit game with all the support and patches to go with it...

Well

saying that...Bioshock 2 support was shocking

DLC FTW if it's free lol.

I would buy the game if I had the money, but since I don't have a job...

Then don't game.

When there is nothing left you will only have yourself to blame. This is pretty much the reason why PC games are so few and far between. TBH any company that is prepared to take the risk of releasing on PC now (because piracy it just too easy) deserves my money. Most have just given up because they are literally handing out games.

And people who download them always have an excuse. Yours is you don't have a job - don't buy that graphics card then. See how easy it is? I could sit here and give you a million excuses why I should have the god given right to steal something. But I won't bother because there is no excuse for stealing.

Infact I have bought both Fallout 3 collector's sets (brotherhood and vaultboy) and the CE of this game. I figured that for close to two years of enjoyment it was worth it.

Ed. And there are now two patches out for it.

Two years I managed to squeeze from that. Played through every possible scenario.. Good, bad, blow up Megaton, hand tenpenny to the ghouls, male, female, black widow, lady killer. The list just goes on.

I know there's no excuse, I'm just saying I haven't the money to buy every game of which I like the trailer. I download a game, and if I like it I buy it. That's how it works for me at the moment. And tbh there've just been too many disappointments when it comes to (PC) games lately. Modern Warfare 2? Got great reviews, bought it, and after playing it for a while my opinion is that they should pay me for even trying to play it. C&C4? FAIL. BC2? Disaster. ZERO hit detection. F1 2010? Still waitiing for the patch that supposedly is going to fix the gazillion problems it has. If half of the highly anticipated games turn out to be utter crap, who can blame me for not buying every single one of them, but checking if they're worth my money first? Now you can hate me for it, but frankly I'm not going to change my mind.

Part of the capability of enjoying games is not to over do it. What I play I buy. I downloaded Mafia 2 before getting it (which I just have) it stuttered and I didn't want to pay for it so I didn't. I didn't play it again either.

I paid £35 for F1 only to realise that I didn't like it. Not played it for more than an hour. However, after Dirt 2 they can have £35. Simply as I want them supported so I can have Dirt 3 and Grid 2.

A few years back I stole every game I played. It was just like taking candy from a baby. Thing is, over time I got so sick of gaming because I had so many I couldn't settle down and play one before another one came along. This year I have paid for (and fully played and completed) Bad Company 2, MW2, Fear 2 (awesome game !) Mirror's edge and a few others.

I don't buy things just because a trailer looks good. Those are adverts, marketting. They are designed to fool you into thinking you need it.

MW2 peed me off badly. 6 hours I played it before completing it. What a waste of money. But, that's EA and Cacktivision all over. They want more and more for less and less as the years pass so I avoid them.

Already said over MSN but here's the deal.

It wasn't an Nvidia issue. I turned out to be the fact that most people's PCs could not handle the engine with loads of NPC in the same place.

This is obviously down to buggy code and it only affects about two parts of the game I have played so far (24 hours in now).

One of them is a battle between two factions with you as the bacon in the sandwich (loads of plasma guns going off and shotguns ETC) but VATS stops it from being impossible and the other is the ending of a quest involving big red rockets.

It has the crash bugs FO3 had but, in fairness this isn't down to the game. FFDSHOW and Klite codecs don't like the game. Fix? use the Divx codec and create an exception for NV in FFDSHOW.

The other bugs are as old as the hills. Disable four cores as it doesn't use them and on certain machines can be buggy (bit of INI scripting) and if you have too many save games it will stack crash (memory overload). So keep them less than 1gb.

The only bug that really does affect the game is that autosave doesn't work. Even after two patches. So you need to remember to save regularly. However I always did in Fallout 3 any way because of all of the above lol.

Quite possibly Todd. I know my dad got around a bit before he passed on
biggrin.gif

I've completed this twice now from scratch. Once siding with Yes Man and the second time siding with Mr House. I'm kinda bummed I did those two because they're pretty much the same. Next time I am siding with the NCR all out (I didn't even see the stupid embassy at the end of the bleeding strip !)

I'd been wondering for ages how to bloody do that

Still. Winter is inbound (snow on thurs apparently !) and I still have so much to do and so little time
biggrin.gif

I've done a pee load of the cheevos (achievements) and playing through again will give me a chance to unlock the rest
