Hi all, Other than bit defender which is the best anti-virus/internet security software that people would use personally or reconmend and is there any time of year that is best to buy these sort of things. many thanks in advance

I'm using Comodo Internet Security Premium. It's an AV, Firewall and Malware all rolled into one. It's decent to have running in the background.

The only time I notice it is when it does the weekly scan.

Keeps me safe. Mind you, unlike some I don't go on any dodgy sites or download/install anything I don't know what it is

Some people may call me mad, but i don't use any antivirus at all, and i don't get any viruses. So long as you know what you're doing and you don't click on dodgy stuff you should be fine

best free id say komodo av and firewall, might aswell use komodo browser

paid probably kaspersky

i use ms essentials myself

I use Microsoft Security Essentials. It's free, made by the people who made Windows, for Windows.

How do you know you dont get viruses if you dont have AV to tell you?

Free, I'd use MS essentials, because it runs completely in the background.

I use McAfee atm though because I get it free from BT broadband and that runs in the background too.

I'm pretty confident saying they all near enough do the job well. I just dislike the ones that over-do scanning, and let you know all the time that they're scanning this and scanning that. That's my one complaint about McAfee, although this BT one seems ok, but every time you plug a memory stick in it gives you the option to scan it, which maybe ok for some people but just annoys me slightly.

I find the flaws that they all have dont actually affect their ability to block viruses, just annoy you slightly

In part i would agree with you but things in the software market change month to month, it would be like talking about windows xp and expecting to find out about windows 7 also to stop thing from becoming stagnet new post like this pop up in the recent topics which lets other people know what people want to talk about at the time they are online, so not that i really had to but i thought i would just share my veiw point

The best way I can say it is, there is no best. You need to find what fits around you, and your needs. I am currently using Kaspersky Antivirus which seems to have got a lot better since the 2010 version. for the years between then and now I used COMODO but recently got sick of it constantly warning me about nothing and deleting files i needed. Kaspersky hasn't interupted me once, its much more lightweight than it used to be also. I would recommend COMODO or Kaspersky. For free COMODO is top of the game and still keeping up with the likes of Norton and other paid programs. Microsoft's security essentials also does a pretty good job but scanning takes an age and it can be a bit slow on definitions. Both of the others I mentioned used a Cloud as well ad definitions and various technologies such as HIPS.

The best antivirus is Knowledge. If you know what you're looking for you can avoid 99% of virus'

Besides that find something you like the look of because besides that there won't really be that much difference. Everybody will have a different opinion.

My rig doesn't have antivirus. However my server has Comodo Server Antivirus.

Don't click on the "free pr0n"/"download crackZ0rs now"/"I'm a picture of a hot chick that wants to meet you-JPG-but I have to compact it cos JPGs are so large!(....exe)" links == no virals.

Best security in the world ever ! AND free !

Sounds like a good enough reason to close this thread or merge it?
