I read a tutorial about what you'd need on a homepage with a few examples and I created my own style, logo and colourscheme around it.

Check http://www.w3schools.com/ out, they have some great tutorials. It's so much easier once you understand the structure and the basic commands.

The best place to buy a domain is Godaddy.com. That's who I use

Promotion is probably the hardest bit

Just had a look at godaddy, a 1 year economy .net domain with private registration would cost me about €40. I would've expected a lot more!

Yes it is very cheap compared to how much money you could possibly make

Another day,
I've started learning HTML, and I now understand images, paragraphs, headings and links.
I'll start designing once I know how to change fonts and learn how to position images etc.

hmm i have a .com domain for our clan and we only pay 9$ a year for the domain and atm we pay 2.5$ a month for hosting but we are working on getting our own "serverpark" we already got 2 4tb fileservers running and we want to extend that with some dedicated servers to host websites. Got a 100-100 fiber connection for the servers.

Althought 40 euro isnt expensive, it's probably possible to find way cheaper.

well we haven't had any problems with our option. It's just when ur website gets visited alot you might want to pick a better host.

But it might get even better for me, cause my college allowed me to use our school servers to host a website on. They have hundreds of thousands of euros worth on servers and a gigabit fiber connection, so i should be fine there

and u might want to look into some form of ads, they might not look pretty on your website but most people don't really care cause ads are everywhere anyway.

UPDATE: I think my monitor finally giving up on me

And after a lot of hitting and plugging and wrigling, it gets back normal, for a while...
