Wow sounds pretty cool! I'll have a butchers when I get off work today.

Super w00ts to Jim for fixing the busted ass smiley support in WiForums :D. Thx mate! :wavey:

Here's another cool freeware program I found:

http://www.soft411.com/company/TrackZapper-com/TZ-Connection-Booster-Wizard.htm

It configures Windows' advanced settings for different connections. I noticed an immediate improvement in browsing speed. Haven't checked what it does with my ping though. At first glance it doesn't have much effect on ping, which is good since mine's already pretty low.

Also does anyone know of a way (freeware program, script, etc) to keep a DSL connection alive? I'm trying to do Remote Desktop from school, but the problem is our dynamic IP changes after only 10 minutes or so of inactivity; I need it to stay the same all day long. Thx

Why dont you set your antivirus or similar program to check for definition update every 8 mins or so... :D

The problem is I need to leave the desktop logged out when I leave, but I need the connection to stay alive for 6+ hours. To my knowledge, most programs don't start running or remain running when there are no users logged into the comp. It probably wouldn't be hard to set up some program to access the net every so often, but it might have to be a service type thing that runs at comp startup without login. Or find some way to do it in hardware. I checked every setting in my modem and router and set the timeouts higher, DCHP lease for 2 days, connection from "On-Demand" to "Always On", etc, but no luck.

UPDATE: I think I found a way to do it! No program installation required!

I made a self-refreshing web page using the following code:

<HTML><HEAD>

<META HTTP-EQUIV="Refresh"

CONTENT="20; URL=the url of the self-refreshing page">

</HEAD>

<BODY>

BLANK

</BODY></HTML>

The number after the CONTENT= tells it the interval in seconds between refreshes. All I had to do was put this page up on my host (freewebs.com), open it in FF, then Lock the computer (not logout, so that the programs stay open). This keeps my connection alive, and therefore my IP the same!
