Suggestions on a new graphics card?

Yeh, I think all EVGA cards are reference but some of their coolers are non reference.

kinda not following you on this comment lol I know theres non ref pbc and ref pcb but doent that follow onto the cooler as well to a degree?? And evga does have non ref items as well for instance my 570HD is in part based on the reference for the 560Ti smaller pcb and central design fan.

to clarify most cards that have non ref coolers ( not talking about more fan models and dcu ones) are on non ref pcb's

My 460 is a cyclone model with a custom cooler as stock.

I'm not sure on which 6950 to get this or this as they both have their benefits as the xfx is reference allowing for a full cover waterblock but the msi has better air cooling maybe better overclocking? but is non reference.

so I don't know

I meant the PCB, even with a non reference cooler it's still a reference card (PCB wise) with a non reference cooler. But as you said they do have non ref PCBs ones as well, this I did not know, I thought they were all ref PCB models but they changed the coolers on some

) played metro 2033 and changed to my new resolution as I haven't played it since I got my new monitor and at 1920x1080 I have to play at normal!! to be able to get playable framerates

of those 2 I'd go twin frozer as it'll be quieter and cooler. But if you are going to wc it then stick with a ref pcb this will make getting a water block easier. But keep in mind metro is hell on vc's TTL shows it all the time even with the best card playing at max at 1920x1080 challenges the best cards.

good thing is that I still have two weeks to figure out which card I want hopefully there may be some slight price drops

I'm not from the uk so i don't know if you can get them cheaper somewhere else.. Scan : http://www.scan.co.uk/products/1gb-gigabyte-hd-6950-oc-pci-e-21-(x16)-5000mhz-gddr5-gpu-870mhz-1408cores-2x-dvi-dp-hdmi

Thanks but I think that getting a 2gb reference model card would be better for more aa and being able to use a fullcover waterblock

As far as I know only EVGA let you change the cooler.

Yer but as general rule evga cards are underwhelming and tend to be very similar to reference oh they have good warranty but thats about it. Also there build quality not exactly amazing to my experience.

I mentioned about them being reference later in the thread but he wanted a card that he could remove the cooler to put a water block on (another reason to go for EVGA and them being reference) and still have warranty.

Still my mind always think I don't really use a card more than 3 years so like life time warranty on ram you never really use it. But yer in regards to the cooler they are good for that but tend to find non refs have great performance from good brands. Though might be idea for him to consider all options because after market colours some times are not always most effective pound per performance.
