Stuttering

right, i have overclocked my E6300 to 3.6GHz, its stable, ...or seems to be, but it stutters, every 2 seconds, for half a second, everything just freezes, then contunues again...

i tried down clocking it, got it t 2.4GHz too, and then the same at 2GHz

even at stock it does it, when stressed enough

any ideas whats causing this, or how to fix it?

Check u`r system for virals/spy.

See how much space u have on u`r OS drive, and is u`r pagefile fragmented all over the place.

Run some stability checking progs, the likes of what Kemp uses in reviews. Memtest, orthos..

If u come out of that with passes, I`d be interested in what services are running in u`r windows install.

right, what i forgot in first post is that i'm on vista...if that affects it at all?

EDIT: spybot search and destroy, and lavasoft adaware updated an scanning

OS drive is 80 gig, of which 36.8 is free

stability programs are next...

orthos was fine for 7 minutes, i then stopped it because it made the stutterig worse.....

What mode is your Harddrive in?

If it is in PIO you will get stuttering.. because PIO uses the CPU more, I believe.

i stopped it after so long, cos it just froze everything up, to the point where nothing worked

how do i check?

i have to type really slowly every 2 seconds, when it stutters, and i press a key on the keyboard, it doesnt apear, so i have to go back and fix it

this is anoying now

EDIT: memtest is 38% completed, no error's yet

and i just removed 41 pieces of spyware

i've not tried safe mode tbh, it usually doesnt make a difference...

EDIT: hell, i dont even know how to boot into safemode, without making windows crash, and having it ask when i boot back up..

Have a look at your sata/IDE channels in device manager.

It is worth a check.

Whenever I get stutters that is the first thing I check.

If that is happening repeatedly and if you're running Vista - this might not be a hardware issue at all.

Check what Vista is doing with your CPU:

Reboot and right click the taskbar at the bottom of the screen and choose Task Manager. In the task manager window click the "Performance" Tab. Leave this window open and watch the CPU Usage graph, check if the stutters can be matched to spikes of usage by Windows or when the PC freezes the CPU is being maxed out. If either of these is scenarios are true - it's Windows that's causing the problem and not your hardware.

It might be worth looking at?

"ultra DMA Mode 5" is that what you mean? cos thats what they all say....

It doesn't seem to match any process in Windows but can I ask you how many programs were running on your PC apart from Task Manager when you screen capped that?

It's just that the total usage seems quite high...

EDIT: after 200% memtest hasnt found any problems, so i dont think its my memory, so i will close that down

Harddisks are fine..

Maybe something software related?

Might be File System error/s

Go Start / "Computer" right click on your system drive and choose Properties in the Properties window go Tools Tab and in the Error Checking section click the Check Now button - check for file system errors.

It will tell you it can't because the drive is in use and ask you if you want to run it on the next reboot click yes.

Reboot and let it check (it'll automatically start Windows when it's done)

i've fixed it, and it was THE most stupid thing ever

DVD Drives, ....i have 2 of them on the same cable, and they were both set to master

it obviously didnt like that, so... i changed it

goodbye stutter
