Have my quad running a Noctua NP heatsink. The quad is @ stock settings, I was just wondering what clock I could have this baby up to.

The current temps are:

35c running without step, so running @ 2.4. The highest temp is: 48c running Crysis Warhead @ Gamer level getting 50-70fps. The graphics is stock atm aswell.

Would someone please work out what the max frequency I can go up to? Also would someone post the settings like fsb and such :).

Thank you.

I have P5Q PRO and Q6600.

i aint no expert, infact i'm a newb,

but my advice is buy a really big heatsink,

then just mess in the bios, turn everything up a bit,

then see what happens, its what i did, n ended up

clockin my 2.93 to 3.6 and its stable as hell,

(mita been fluke)

What is your HS?

All chips are different, even if they are made in the same batch.

the thermal spec is 62.2, so Keep below 55-60.

Only you will be able to say ;D

Run Orthos to strain CPU and RAM whilst overclocking.

Also use rthdrbl to strain cpu. that way your getting the case as hot as it will ever be ;D

i've learnt that voltage is very important, mostly the Vcore (across the CPU)

should not exceed about 1.4 for ur processer, more than that will generate

heat and shorten its life span. (i think)

and the Dram Voltage, which should NEVER exceed 1.65,

I'm ussing a noctua heat sink too, but i decided it wasnt big enough so

i strapped 3, yes 3 fans to it, two blowing at the heat sink, and one away

from on the far side, full load at 3.6ghz temps are about 56C,

idle is about 32C Proper Job!!

N yes, i'm aware my system is really messy, i had four fans in a swinging

extra door (cooler master nvidia edition) but the door wont fit in with the

noctua so i just put the four fans randomly around the case, it works,,,

I had already mounted 2 fans on top of each other with my old build. They were the top case fans, around 90mm. The noise was loud to say the least, the only problem is the fans will break more quickly. Those Noctua fans are quite expensive aswell, not worth the temp difference imho.

I could send you some snow in the mail and you could just chuck it in your comp :P. I feel like doing it lol.

lol, i got snow her in dublin two,

but my legs broken (avatar) so all i can do is sit inside

n watch it, what a load o crap,

mayb run some ducting outside to the cold??

Wouldn't do that mate, risk of condensation. You could of course try with an empty case first but I wouldn't risk my €1200+ hardware for it.

I was being sarcastic lol, I'm no crazy man :P.

Bit late to the thread but like others have said the clock will vary. First off what's your VID?

Download CoreTemp

and run it and in there you can check your VID.

VID isn't great but doesn't mean you won't be able to get a decent overclock.

Try aiming for a 3GHz overclock and lets see if you can lower that voltage (who know you might be able to).

FSB to 333MHz, remember to change your ram divider too if it means your ram will go out of spec, and make sure to manually set any voltages. Don't leave them on auto. What is your vCore set at in bios?

Here is pics of ALL options within the BIOS. Take a look please.

Thanks for that, I'm trying to download your mobo manual (to see available options etc) but ASUS's slow FTP (as usual) is timing out on me! :cussing:

Ha indeed, still haven't been able to join their forum :D.

lol, there's no overclocking advice there :P

But it might have helpful posts if you get issues with the board :)

Right I got rapidshare downloading the manual for me. Just 10 more mins then I'll have it.

I'd say set your settings to (Not yet though, but note down)

CPU Voltage: 1.3

CPU PLL Voltage: Lowest option there is

DRAM Voltage: Set this to your memory's recommended voltage

NB Voltage: If you've got around 4GB then set this to the lowest, 8GB set it to the 2nd lowest.

SB Voltage: Lowest

PCI Sata Voltage: I'm going to read up on this, new option I've never seen before.

Load Line Calibration: On (Reduces VDroop)

CPU and PCIE Spread Spectrum: Disabled

Disable C1E Support too if you've disabled speedstep as that will stop EIST completely. I always have it (C1E and SpeedStep) on when I overclock but most people disable it.

In DRAM Timing Control set the timings to your memory's rated timings.

What memory have you got? Link to the product page would be helpful too :)

This is helpful.

All these extra options (compared to my old s939 Asus A8N SLI-Deluxe) had me guessing.

*goes to eat, then to tinker with the BIOS some more*
