"making billions in pre-release sales"

Eh??

Even though there are delays, what's incredibly impressive is that those planets have been put together in a matter of weeks, showing how the investment in a good toolset is beginning to pay off. While I doubt we'll see 4.0 in 2017, there is going to be nevertheless one hell of a game there, so much so that I imagine people will start to criticise other games for not doing as much e.g. Mass Effect 4.

I tried Star citizen for the weekend courtesy of a colleague. I am pretty unimpressed with it actually. I'm not sure what people are so hyped about. And in this day and age where repetition leads to boredom quickly I really dont see this game lasting longer than its first few months launch where sales will indeed go crazy, possibly even breaking records. After that i sense user numbers will dwindle and fall off until you get the stable committed fans.

So before you go jumping down my throat Mazty, since you seem a pretty hardcore defender of this game. Remember that this is my opinion of it and I don't really need to back my reasons except that, I just didnt think it was very good.

That being said, it is graphically nice. But thats not the ultimate goal of this game is it.

Possibly, but even then he's miles off the mark as the total pledged is ~$125 million, so off by at least $875 million :D

Well in his defense, currency was never mentioned so lets say billions is still correct if you consider the Norwegian Kroner :D

I'm looking forward to this. Wonder if Mark Hamill will have a cameo?
It's been a couple of years I can wait another one.

He's an already confirmed actor in it, they've already recorded most of the dialogue apparently.

I think one of the main ways in which SC will shine is when played with others. The time this was most apparent for myself was when I was in one of the larger ships, and without realising, it had taken off and was already in flight - it's a level of freedom not seen in any game and technically not possible in any other game, even though it seems simple on the surface.

Calm down there, I'm a defender of what project management is as it's my profession, hence why I don't take lightly to those who don't have experience in it trying to correct my professional opinion. If you didn't enjoy SC, that's fine - people all have different tastes.

Yet you have no experience in the Game Industry and as Devs have said here, are not entirely the same thing. In addition while it's respectable you defend CI. You're doing so without even acknowledging the facts while putting blame onto others who are looking at actual facts. This thread for example. Another piece of the game delayed. Just adds more fuel to the fire and further proves the point it's terribly managed. Constant delays. They have one module released in years, that's a terrible track record.

Awesome - thanks!

I think because the kickstarter was so huge (and was it about 2-3 years ago?) it just feels like it's been forever so I can certainly understand why people may be frustrated.

I'm not invested financially so yeah keen to play when it's out but that's about it. Certainly may feel different if I'd dropped a couple of hundred dollars into it.

I put 600 in it, and im not in a rush or keen at all for it, i want it done right, and delays are a good thing, i have enough other games to keep me busy. even though a lot of people seem impatient with it, and i do understand that, 4 years since kickstarter began is nothing for a game this size.

For that much investment then certainly your focus would be on getting your moneys worth and getting it done right as opposed to ' give it to me now'

Yeah the moment i click the pay now button i assumed that money as gone forever, and it being a pledge to a game makes sure of that, but i can afford to and i really like where its going, unlike other people i don't waste energy with some bad news or delays either, not worth the hassle.
