Hi guys just wondering how good these ssd drives acctually are and the benefits to games i am assuming level load times but would it be a lot faster than if i bought a velociraptor drive i have only ever used normal hard drives so any advice is appreciated

I've just took the plunge and bought one myself and i'm quite impressed with it, though i haven't installed any games on it as i'm keeping them on my hdd but loading apps and os wise it is quick

You remind me of myself when I was back in high school using cassette tapes for my music needs and asking a buddy with one of those new CD players if CD's are any good.

Or when I was on dial up and a friend of mine told me he just got the new high speed internet from the local cable company and I was asking him if that high speed was any good and if the difference was even noticeable.

SSD is the SH**

That's the explanation you need to look at. Couldn't have said it any better than that

For games not so much from what ive seen/heard/read, any other programs you will notice the loading times cut tho, unless.... your like me and pretty much NEVER close anything

Imo better to raid a bunch of sata iii drives together for the same cost of the ssd in mind. eg: £200 ssd > raid 0 4x sata iii drives. Better performance and tonnes more storage.

But if all you want is raw speed buy a 750 gig ssd for a grand. You want the best you gotta pay for it.

are sata 6gb in a raid reaqlly better than an ssd???? if so I may go that route I had an issue with my ssd so it went back and while waiting for it to clear I got 2 hybrid hhsd and raided those and well one was faulty lol so now on a single one. Which isnt horrible but its not like the ssd.

velociraptors are REALLY noisy little bleeders

my old one used to drown out the noise from my overclocked GPUs on full whack (vacuum cleaner mode).

dont think he was referring to veloci's but if he was then lol nm Yeah I use to run nothing but them and they can be noisy but I think he's referring to like 4 wd blacks at 59$ each 500gb 32m cache in raid 0

soz - i was just reading the 1st post in this thread, and they were mentioned as an alternative

Sata III hard drives are the most pointless thing ever released, IMHO. The drive is not going to be faster just because it has a Sata III connector on it. There are next to no harddrives that will even come close to reaching the limits of Sata II, for pure storage droves Sata I would not even hold the drive back.

Just grab a SSD as a boot drive and something like Samsung Spinpoint F3 for stOrage and off you go.
