SSD PERFORMANCE

Hey there guys, good review.

I know it's off topic but is Windows 7 that good compared to Vista?? I haven't given it a go just yet. Is it a worthwhile investment over Vista Ultimate 64??

Also very novice question bu could you put a 5400rpm, 7200rpm and 10000rpm drive on a graph against the average current SSD for me. I'd like to try get an idea of the overall performance increase for the extra £70 over a 500gb 7200rpm drive. For instance that same extra £70 spent on a better graphics card, would that be of greater performance value (i.e. the diff between a GTX570 and a GTX580)?? I know as I said, strange question.

Thanks a million

Ron

i love windows 7 and i made the transition when it came out and have not looked back.

a SSD will outperform ANY hdd no matter what the spindle speed is.

so its a choice of ither a ssd or a 7200rpm HDD as most 10k HDD are expensive

But 10k rpm are bigger than 60gb?? I understand you need to have your OS and the game/project on the SSD to see the diff?? Recent games are what, 15gb each, the 60gb will be gone in no time.

Will the peformance be worth the extra money? I mean if you had an extra £70 to either upgrade from a 7200rpm HDD to a SSD or to upgrade from a HD6850 to a HD6950. Which would offer the best improvement for the cash??

Sorry to press you for an answer it's the question I'm asking;)

Thanks again

I used Win Vista and 7. For my findings there isn't alot different. I haven't installed DirectX 11 on the Vista. I've researched it and found alot of difference

The 6000's are DirectX 11 cards and Windows 7 has that built in. Vista is DirectX 10 and i read it can do 11 with an install from Microsoft.

last week i recieved an SSD, put windows there, its great. Internet loads well and no waiting for the system processes to finish when desktop first loads.

Games were on HDD till I set-up a RAID thingy wich wipes the drives so I'll install them again. Mean-while I put Call of Duty Black Ops on the SSD. The loading still takes ages

It's a little quicker and it doen't matter much because the levels load quick enough for me to pick a load-out and wait for the match to start and thats with both a 7200rpm and the SSD.

the only diff you notice is within the OS games dont load faster just stick games on a sammy f3 1tb and you will be fine.

TBH its a tuff one apparently the biggest best performance upgrade for snappyness and boot times etc is going for a SSD,games is a different ball park

I have used (tried) 3 different SSD's and i am just back at a normal Hdd

i find the speed difference a bit meh....

They just aren't, and never have been, worth the expense.

However, I aint taking the ssd out of the mbp. Boots and shutsdown quicker than any OS I've experienced.

i approve myself purchasing an SSD. Everything runs well now. the computer is a solid performer for browsing, media and games
