SSD Advice?

Hi everyone

Been thinking of adding some more SSD performance to my rig. I currently use a 64GB Crucial M4 as a boot drive and for programs, and have stuffed all my games onto my HDD. What I'd really like to do with the SSD is use it for my games. So ideally I would; Use my 64GB SSD for Boot/programs, HDD for films/ music etc, and another SSD for my games.

I have been considering a few different options:
  • Buy one Crucial M4 256GB SSD - £179 for 256GB
  • Buy two Mushkin Chronos 120GB SSD's and RAID 0 (However i know nothing about RAID really. I understand what each one does, just not how to set it up, positives, negatives about it etc.) - £150 for 240GB - This is the setup I'm leaning towards at the moment.
  • I also thought about getting two fairly small Caviar Black HDD's and RAID 0 them, but if I'm going for performance then i may as well go for SSD right?

Seeing as I don't know if there are any major downsides to SSD RAID etc, thought I'd come to you guys lol

Not thinking of upgrading right now, perhaps in a month or two ish? Not sure.

Anyway, any advice will be greatly appreciated.

SSDs are fast enough, unless you transfer a lot of files regularly then it's not really worth raiding because for normal use like just running programs you wont see any difference.

I'd say go for a SSD for your OS and programs and a HDD for storage.

I'd buy one large SSD as you already have a HDD. You can stuff your most played games and most used programs on the SSD and leave everything else on the HDD.

I already have an SSD for OS and programs. I also have a HDD I would use for movies, music etc.

This new SSD('s) would be for pretty much games only. So I either go for the M4 for slightly higher storage but for slightly more money, or two Mushkin Chronos's for slightly less storage and slightly less money. Just to give you an idea, my steam folder at the moment is about 115 GB in total so 240 (or whatever few GB might be lost in the RAID process) or 256 would be ample for now and plenty new games to come.

Another question, would I notice much speed difference in load times for games between one single SSD and two RAID 0 SSD's?

It is pointless raiding SSDs for gaming. Assuming you play online, your load screens will be shorter yeh, but you'll just have to wait for everyone else anyway, plus it isnt even gunna make that much difference.

The M4 sounds the best option to me and ebuyer have a sale on this weekend if you're wanting them soon:
