Spot the difference!

Well, i just think that because i have a GeForce 2 (MX/MX 400) that 8 is better, no matter what. not really going by specs but just cause the number 8 is greater than the number 2.

To get some idea how the cards stack up:

http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/charts/vga-charts/3dmark06-v1-0-2-hdr-sm3-0-score,230.html

It's not completely up to date as it's missing the 8600 cards but it gives a fair idea. Note that the MX 400 isn't even on there, that's how lame it is in comparrison to any card you could buy today.

Notes;

"CF" means crossfire it's where you run two ATI cards together

"SLI" means sli.. where you run two NVIDIA cards together

"OC" means overclocked, where they increase the gpu, sharer, and memory speeds.

so if i have a USB 1.0 case i would have to swtich it right?

No, not necessarily.

You need an ATX case, which you should have unless your case is really really really old.

Each motherboard comes with a back panel plate which you can pop in/out of your case. It is this panel which has the sockets for USB etc. You could also have front panel USB, this is where your case has sockets at the front for USB.

Most motherboards will have internal pins for USB and it is these pins which you connect to the front panel, or to a bracket which goes in the space for a PCI card and is accessable on the back, most motherboards will come with something like this.

i broke my front USB ports so, theres probably no future for my case...plus the guy who "fixed" last time changed my standard HP box for a no name LOUD box.

yeah, it's that i dont wanna run battlfield#### , I just want to play Warrock which can run on a minimum 800GHz and GeForce... GeForce.

and just for an external opinion how bout a Killer NIC?

Well.. ok, but if you're gonna spend £500 (or any amount for that matter) at least spend it on the good stuff. Like Kempez said, don't bother with SLI at the moment. If you wanted to future proof you might buy a motherboard with 2 16x PCI-E slots but only use one for now.

I've got a £250 budget, so I want to skimp on the rest and spend the most out of RAM and GPU.

Ok, lets start again. What motherboard, CPU, and RAM do you currently have?

There are all sorts of options for GPU but you want to be sure the games you want to play aren't going to be CPU limited, no point spending on a GPU only to have it limited by the CPU.

RAM is always going to help but the question is, will a CPU make more difference.
