What is the difference between this card: BFG NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX 768MB GDDR3 PCI Express Graphics Card, priced at $939.99, and this card:BFG GeForce 8800 GTX OC 768MB GDDR3 PCI Express Graphics Card, priced at $549.99, both prices are from the big blue box. To me, an average citizen, the cheaper card seems to be better, having a higher clock rate and from what is described in the specs, everything else is the same, the only difference is design of the stickers on the box... and both of these say the same thing, so let's just say I'm confused.

These are the links, if I'm allowed to post them:

The expensive one comes with the Danger Den full cover block - but it is way overpriced...

At first I thought you got two lol

Very overpriced PC that.

And still with onboard graphics, if you want to play games with decent settings you need a dedicated card. ;)

plus i can play pretty well on my current system, which is 1.39GHz and an NVIDIA GeForce2 MX/MX 400, the only problem I have right now are PC and program startup hiccups, I'm not looking for graphics, but sheer performance.

I would build the system myself, keep the monitor, case, keyboard and mouse you already have and replace the motherboard, cpu, ram, and graphics card. You may need a new power supply too.

The #1 concern is the GPU, followed by CPU and RAM, of course you need a decent motherboard and power supply to drive it all, here are some options to give you some idea.

Motherboard:

CPU:

RAM:

GPU:

TOTAL:

POWER SUPPLY:

OR

Of course I've quoted the best possible price I could find for each component and they probably all come from different stores (I didn't look) which would incur larger shipping costs than finding a single store with all the components even at slightly higher costs.

There are a number of stores associated with this site which would be good places to look for those parts, or similar parts. If you need help choosing specific parts let us know.

is running two parallel $100 each cards like the 8600GT alomst equal to running a single $250 card like the XFX GeForce 8800GTS?

I wouldn't bother with SLI, especially not for lower end cards, it's a waste of money and never gets the performance accross all games that you would expect

holy crap, this is what watercooling is?

<img src=http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o319/koganinja2506/PICT1450.jpg height=200px width=200px> I'm stumped!
