Hi am using a 790i ultra, would like it if speed step worked it doesn't do anything??? its is all set to auto whats the deal, will it not work with overclocked machines???

see sig below for machine specs

Speedstep won't work with an OC'ed rig. It's function is to throttle down the CPU frequency when at idle to save energy consumption. If you have the CPU overclocked it won't work.

errrr, thats starnge as it works on mine, whne I run at 3.8 it throttles down to 2.5 and when I run at 3.0 it goes down to 2.0

Doesn't work with mine when I OC. Maybe it depends on the board?

EDIT: it will work when OC'ed, as long as you haven't manually set the multiplier. Speedstep drops the multiplier to 6x when at idle and will also lower the voltage as long as it's at stock. Just checked it out:D

Yeah most mobos will allow the oc and keep the stepping. All that really happens is that ur raising the boundries it works in.

Just allows the changing of the multiplier by the OS doesnt it ?

Dunno how Vista's %age thing works mind.

See now there`s another question I`d have for those who actually use speed-step.

If it`s the case that enabling it allows the OS to change the multiplier to x6/7/8/whatever as it sees fit. What about extreme processors where there`s a comparitively massive range ?

Why do you want speed step? It is a little weird overclocking and still wnating speed set enabled. ;)

Not really... I used to do it on my first rig, kept power usage/temps down while I was just surfing etc and cranked up when I did anything demanding...

I stopped using it for some reason...

i did, but i disabled it. im oc'ed and it worked fine. actually it freaked me out that my multi was jumping til i learned about speed step

answered perfectly...same here

Sorry if it has been mentioned, but you have to ENABLE Intel EIST, it works for me then, and my rig is obviously overclocked ;)

Don't have EIST settin but speedstep is enabled???

I wouldn't be able to help you then buddy, I have tried my bit and failed.. seemingly any way LOL

Best of luck getting it sorted, maybe your motherboard just won't let you do it? Or doesn't have the technology in it (sounds stupid..)
