Hey up,

Right, decided i would chuck aload of unused parts together the other day that i had sitting around. This includes Windows 98, so installed that and eveything seems to be running nice and smooth apart from the sound. It wont show any devices. I have tryed just about everything i can think of and it still wont have it. Its an AS Rock K7VT4A Pro mobo and i have already been on their website and tryed downloading the drivers but still nothing.

Any ideas ?

This is what its showing me:

And no, i dont think it is SE as it only says 98 under properties.

Hmm, Yeh i am convinced its a driver issue but i have tryed just about every driver out there.

Hopefully its not the chip dieing.

Im wandering if it might be that mobo with win98 as i googled it and someone else has had the exact same problem with the same set up ?

Maybe, do you reckon it might be worth sticking linux on there to see if it works. Only thing is i dont know much about it. Gotta be worth a try though ?

Mmmm, Must be away around this. The driver never responses.. so it must be the driver causing the problem.

But why? Anything in the event viewer that might give us a clue?

Sometimes the BIOS and Win98 don't agree over IRQs. You could try changing the IRQ in the BIOS, selecting auto, clearing the DMI pool or try moving a PCI card into another slot.

You've got the drivers for onboard sound from your m/b site and for Win98 right?

If none of that works and it's the chip, I have a Soundblaster 5.1 pci card you can have if you fancy a trip over to DT11.

Tryed just about everything now and still not working so im gonna guess its the chip

So, yeh im gonna have to try it with a PCI card. If you have got one laying around that you dont want then im sure i could put it to good use, Just not sure im gonna be able to get over to your area, however if you would post it i would happily send you over some cash.

Let me know.
