Small talk & Chit chat

GN "tear down" of the RTX2080 has been hilarious!

I mean come on, 70+ screws and a heat gun! I see why the price is so damn high now, it's the cost of materials, this thing probably has the same weigh in value as a family car

A little over engineered I feel, it's going to suck if you want to clean the fins or service it later.

It's probably a design flaw. I have a feeling that black part in the middle was designed to clip out and possibly change for a different colour? or something? but it rattled when the card was under heavy load. So they just went all gung ho and glued the crap out of it.

Am still watching the video, but that would concern me as I have seen far more fans die than actual GPUs, but WTF do you do when you can't replace them? (possibly, as I am still watching).

One thing I will say is we don't like Apple design, and I think we can all agree on at least that :D

Edit. OK, seems I am wrong. That plate is a ten second job with a hair dryer and plastic spudger. It's only foam tape holding it on from the look of it. I look forward to hopefully seeing the card modded there then, as there's plenty of scope for it :)

Holy moly that's just absurd.

No doubt it's very pretty but I'll wait for a pre-owned 2080 Ti this time next year for half the price, Gonna stay 1 gen behind from now on, Doesn't make financial sense to be on the bleeding edge all the time anymore for me personally.

6 years on and still providing us with top quality lols

Dice, I can already see the post..

"I went round to a work mate's who has a 2080 and I got to witness ray tracing first hand. I wasn't convinced at first but you have to see it in person to understand. Anyway he's going away for 3 weeks to a Swiss detox resort so has offered to lend it to me while he's there... He's come back and now he's offered to sell it to me for 1080ti prices because he wants the 2080ti instead, so guess who now owns a 2080 ^_^"

When you see the reflections and real time ray tracing live for the first time.....

WOW

Keep it down!!! I need to resist buying these cards dammit.

I hope I wont need a heat gun to put a block on this :O

Can we report SPS. Seems like he was hacked by Dice. That is way too accurate to be a playful dig!
:D

Hahahahahahahahahahahaha, Ok that made my morning lol ^_^

I'm going away to Texas in November for 6 months so buying pretty much anything for my rig makes zero sense, Aside from headphones, I can never have too many headphones :p

Let's hope the trip isn't cancelled because I know what you will do with the money if its not spent on a plane ticket ;)

I'm glad you enjoyed it

That was the perfect analogy :D

Thankfully for Dice his will power is not indicative of his strength lol.

I will be buying a 2080 Ti, But for £600 this time next year pre-owned as these prices have now set a precedence, From here on out the "xx80" card is going to be £800 and the "xx80 Ti" is going to be £1100 and there is no way in hell I am paying either of those prices.

I actually wouldn't be surprised that by 2020 the 4080 Ti could cost £2000+ because Nvidia have seen that people will literally throw money at them.

D'you know what? I think the best way to sum up Turing is this for me.

I will buy it when I can afford it. And by that I mean, when it is at a price I seem fit for it.

What pees me off the most is that I am almost sure they could release a upgrade card for us Pascal owners but would rather be greedy. Which will only hinder their technology. See, like VR if it's too expensive then sure you will hook in all of the rich mugs, but they do not make up the majority.

I can afford to shell out for a 2080 Ti but on principle I just won't, The 57% price increase from the Pascal Ti is just greed gone to new heights.

Oh don't get me wrong I could afford it if I sold off some stuff. I just CBA.

Yeah the price increase is nuts man. I was looking back at my magazines the other day from 08-'10 and a top end GPU was about £300. Mad eh?

If certain people who buy 4, 8 and 12 GPU's every year for thousands and thousands at a time just stopped, And there are a lot of them, I can almost guarantee prices would fall when they see no ones buying.
