Small talk & Chit chat

I strongly disagree with this... it's definitely not as "Simple as". Far from it.

It takes a huge amount of time, energy, money etc to move and especially between countries. Hence it's not as simple as you make it out to be.

Shouldn't just assume that everyone is or have been in your position. Not everyone might be as fortunate or have the same circumstances and benefits that you might have had. Again, just as much as I know of your situation here, you know of anyone elses. Hence one shouldn't just assume it's as simple as move if one isn't happy. If that were the case, why isn't everyone? Probably because it's not. I have moved once in my life and it was as simple as just moving. Hence why I strongly disagree with your statement.

This is an perfect example of it's easier said than done.

Indeed, If it was possible for me right now to just uproot and go I would but I have family responsibilities.

Your whole argument is based off an assumption I'm well off. Lol I'm not. I was making $17/hr. I wouldn't have lasted a week on my own in the West. I worked my a$$ off made enough money and moved everything I had(not much) which was barely enough to fill 2 small cars and bought a home. Driving 2000 miles from one coast to nearly the other. I slept on the floor and played on my computer on the floor too for months.

What I said is true. If you don't like it. Move. Simple as that. Just because it's hard does not make my statement less true. If you physically or legally cannot move, that's entirely different. If you are able, there's no reason to complain about it and do nothing about it.

This is a perfect example of assuming makes an a$$ out of you and me.

That is not what I said dude. Or rather, that was not what I meant. Your healthcare system is the best on the planet. If you have access to it.

And therein lies the problem with a capitalist for profit healthcare system. Because when I list off the following you will understand it perfectly.

1. Like you said, you need a good job to access good healthcare. Meaning that when you are 0 years old you better pray that you either have parents with the money to get you into college OR be one in a thousand and have a very high IQ or be very good at sports to get you into that job. Because without it? your whole life out there will suck balls.

2. Pray that you never become unwell to the point that the insurance company, as they do, will just refuse to insure you and or keep paying. Like I said, I have seen SO MANY people lose every penny they have, run out of money and then start a gofundme just to access that healthcare. And they usually die dirt poor because they can not afford to cure themselves.

3. Without a college education and diploma? it doesn't matter how good you are at something in the USA as I found out. I ended up working at fukkin Burger King. Even though I had 25 years experience in IT and at the time, servers and networking. Skills I totally let slip.

4. A good job (see all of the above). Not one where they screw you on a zero hour contract and hire you for 39 hours so they don't have to offer you anything.

I am not aware of Dice having the above. Not rich parents, or diplomas, or much else. Sure, he has a lot of experience doing what he does but they will laugh at him when he arrives in the USA. As such, I think he is better off where he is. Because as much as people moan and complain about the UK saying it is broken and etc etc? it is still by far the best place I have ever lived (and I have been about a bit to know.).

f you don't have a good job anywhere you aren't really in a good position. I'm not sure how that's an argument.

1) see this is how I know you are misinformed. If you don't have parents who can pay for medical care, the government will pay for kids. 100%. No deductible no 300 pound anything. Just free. You have access to any place. Each state is different and different requirements. That's the confusing part. However even in the most "right wing idiot" states as many people call them, they have these programs.

2) if you haven't broken any law or done anything wrong the insurance won't drop you. If they don't cover something specific then no they won't cover it. The only way you get screwed over is if you have no insurance and are ill and then trying to get coverage will be hard. That's one major flaw. This is where the GoFundMe comes up.

3) No idea how you didn't get a job. If you were on a Visa I could see them not wanting to. You do NOT need any degree to make a living in this country. This is what angers me more than anything. The school system pushes for college and makes every non "white collar" job seem stupid and paints those blue collars as a failure. Despite the fact blue collar workers are make the country run. Most people aren't white collar. Anyway to avoid more ranting... I'm not sure why you didn't get a job. But that seems like an extreme outlier imo.

4) Full time is considered 30 hours. Yes some employers do only offer up to 29. These jobs are generally not high skill jobs, ie, grocery store worker, trash pickup, etc. jobs that are actual contract based cannot drop you. It's all dependent on the contract but I haven't heard of one dropping for less than full time. People can take vacations/holiday after all.
For me I was in IT. So that was white collar I suppose you can classify it as. They couldn't drop you for less than 30 since you were salary based and generally worked 40+ usually 50 hours.

I don't know Dices situation. He briefly explained above. Full stop can't leave. Perfectly fine. Do whatever he needs to. Then after do whatever is best for him. If that's USA then more power to him. If it's Norway like Warchild, then hell yeah brother. Doesn't matter where. Whatever makes him happy.

bought a home.

Where I live that's not even an option for a couple working 60 hours per week each being frugal, House prices in my region are out of reach for the 99% and most people now are moving back in with family as renting prices have gotten out of control.

My bestie over in Texas has said if I get the opportunity he'd let me live in his spare Winnebago on his land, Looks like a huge chrome sci-fi looking tube, Pretty neat, I just have to give him free PT sessions ^_^

It's not an option most places here either. The market is all sorts of F'ed. I bought my home a few years ago before everything got crazy. I was lucky on that. I couldn't do it right now. I'd be renting.

On the west coast the only way to get a home let alone buy is to have your parents pass away and inheritance. But guess what? Government taxes that too!

The way you wrote your post, which I assume that several others in here made the same assumption of said post, is that it seems it's very easy regardless of situation. That is what I was referring to... in all honestly, I don't really care about your situation, nor did I ask anything regarding it, as you might have said.

So not sure why you are explaining your life's situation here when all I said it's not as easy as you make it out to be, when it's not. As you clearly say yourself.

And it's true that it doesn't make your statement less true, but doesn't make my statemet that it's easier said than done any less true either :)

Anywho, I'm off this subject :)

Good riddance I got tired of repeating myself.

Be nice you two, Don't make me turn the forums slow loading down to extra slow... I don't know how I'll do it but I will !!!! ^_^

On some happy news... 7 years of waiting for fibre to be installed and I order the 500Mbps package which finally goes live on the 25th for £40 per month... just got an email from my ISP saying -

"For an extra £20 per month we'll increase the speed from 500Mbps to 1.6Gbps".

That saying of "When you've been waiting for something it usually happens all at once" is quite true, £20 extra per month is currently outside of my budget but I find it funny I've been wishing for anything faster than ADSL's 14Mbps for the last 7 years and now the ISP basically shouts at me... :D

I had to live like a bum for 5 years while on a good salary to buy my first place. As a foreigner trying to build capital for a loan/mortgage its not easy. Pretty much 40m2 apartment and it still cost me 280,000 dollars. Oh Oslo we love you :D Same price will buy me a 3 storey house if I moved towards the swedish border.

I didnt have parents to support or a sugar mommy to fix me up. Once you are there though things get easier.

I get it man. It's hard. I've only got a few extra dollars a month for idk how long now. Wife had to stop working. I've been single income for almost a year now. No help all me. Nothing to do about it except roll up those sleeves and earn it. Just got two raises last month so that's helping tremendously.

An apartment costs $280,000?!!!!! Holy batman that's absurd. That's more than my house :o
You need to move to the border lol

The building I live in has the apartments priced at £240,000, $300,000, Which is 2 x small bedrooms, 1 x bathroom and a living room attached to the kitchen... a proper house goes for around the same in the area but those are in the areas filled with scumbags and druggies that will burgle your home while you're at work.

The houses in the areas filled with normal people that won't ransack your home are in the area of £400,000, Or roughly $500,000.

It's why mixed with job instability etc... most around here will never own their own home and simply moving is not an option unless you've either struck it lucky on the lotto or got your foot in the door at a decent paying company.

lmao. My first wife's grandma was a plastic snob. What I mean is, b*tch didn't have any money, she just used to like to pretend she did and look down her nose at people.

I will never forget sitting down for dinner with the old bag for the first time and her asking me where I live etc. I explained it to her and she said "Oh. A row home. Kinda like in the projects".

I then went onto explain that it was worth over half a million in dollars, and thus worth more than the entire farmstead she was sitting on.

That shut her up.

Oh and also this. All the this.

First one is a work of art, praying them don't mess it up.

In Stockholm, an single room start at that price... Isn't uncommon seeing an single to one and half room apartment for upwards of $500,000. And then they are usually built around 60-100 years ago.

Oh and the average salary is between $3000 to $3500 a month, it's not uncommon seeing just the rent for those apartments range from $800 upwards of $1800 a month.

Where I used to live houses were built in the 60s generally and would cost $800k+ for 3 bed 3 bathroom. Nicer(more modern or has desirable features)houses even if smaller could costs $900-$1m. Heck in certain areas not uncommon to see $1.5m, though at least these were all newish builds.

Apartments built in 60s or slightly newer for 1 bed 1bath(roughly 600ft^2 or ~55m^2)could be anywhere from $2k-$2400. If you were in Los Angeles, California that same place would cost near $4000.

Needless to say the majority of people won't own a home. Even if you could afford that home, the property taxes(just to own the land you pay a bi annual tax) is based off the homes value. So if the market is good you could see a couple thousand dollar tax hike. It's absurd. This is one of many reasons I left.

So basically to summarize big cities suck for living. No matter where in the world lol

yeah. Its always hilarious watching these american realtor shows where you see what $500,000 buys them. And then I look what it would get us. :D

Yeah a lot of the US is cheap in comparison to most of Europe, An American friend of mine couldn't wrap her head around why "people don't just move somewhere else" until she visited and then saw how expensive it is.

It shows how bad it is when you have people unable to move out of their parents house.

I mean I am approaching 40 years old, I work a full time job and I cannot afford to get my own place because of the cost.

I went to my local council to ask about getting my own place, renting a council house and was told "You earn to much and you can afford to pay for private rental" I laughed and said that means I cannot move out of my parents house and they said "Don't care".

If you want a council house here then you need to be earning less than £24K a year anything over that, they say you are able to rent privately.

Average Private rent is £900 a month,
Council tax is mostly £122 a month,
My travel costs in my car are £500 a month, that includes fuel, insurance and car payment, if I was to use public transport, you can add £150 on to that.
My Utilities would be anything from £150 to £300 a month that does not include internet or phone, those would cost if I reduced them right down, £50 a month combined,
House insurance here is on average £50 a month
Water bill iirc is £37.50 a month

You are talking close to £2k a month there before you even think about food or clothes, before you even think about potentially any loans or credit cards, before you even think about trying to save for a deposit to buy a house.

Average salary round here for people that don't go out of town for work is less than £28k a year!

Now will reduce my current outgoings once I have paid my car off and as I said can reduce further by reducing my phone right down, but that would only then allow for food to be purchased and some clothes.

I looked at moving in with my grandad as well, but that would cause so many problems that it's not an option, I would have loved to have moved in with him he basically needs 24/7 help from me, I am always walking round to him, since that house has been in the family since the 70's and the council refused to let him buy it, now they have no choice but to let him buy it we don't have the money.

Basically I need to win the lottery that I don't play in order to get a house or double my salary which isn't going to happen.

At the moment I am helping to keep my parents afloat so no chance of saving any money for myself, also helping to keep my grandad going at times.

Now the good thing about that is that my mum and dad own this house and it has already been agreed that it's passed to me and that my brother and sister get nothing from it, because they are not helping, but it's still meaning I have to live in the house with my parents till they are no longer around.

I hate this town and this country, I wish I could leave but sadly I cannot, unless I win the lottery which I do not play.

Honestly sounds like the vast majority of the UK. Unless you are lucky enough to be born into certain areas/circles, life has been made very difficult for the 99% in the UK by the 1% who would make the greedy Ferengi of Star Trek look tame.

Everything has a habit of going around though and the greedy will find themselves swinging in the wind, Eventually people will have enough, Has happened all throughout history.

Well after 7 years of stone age internet I was meant to get fibre today but apparently not.

Turns out OpenReach completely lied about fibre being laid down ready to connect, The engineer came, Looked around, Inspected a dozen other houses and zero, Not 1 strand of fibre has been laid which means they've been taking government money and not doing what they were supposed to and lying to customers.

I'd say I'm surprised but I've gotten used to basically everything in England being half arsed and a con.

I would say I am shocked but sadly I am not, I have seen what happens in the background and sadly it's not always BT/OR's fault fully.

Sadly some of the contractors they use, say they have laid the fibre but when customers try to sign up, they find there is no fibre in the ground, then BT/OR have to get another company to come in quickly and fix the issue, whilst they try and claw the money back from the original contractors.
