slow gaming problem

Hi,

I have a problem that when I play most games like crysis 2 or GTA IV I find the game is slow although I have this good config: i7 860, GTX 460 1GB, 4GB RAM, 2 H.DD, 1 DVD but I did not OC any thing.

I suspect that maybe something related to power I have seasonic 850W PSU but for some reasons I had to use a UPS that output only 480W !! is that is the problem ?

Thanks

your HDD may need defragging !!!

and/or you may have process-hungry apps running in the background

start the task manager and see if there are processes using unusually-extreme amounts of memory

Thanks

I checked now RAM available is at 50% and CPU idle is at 99% the loaded process and services are sql server, vmware , kaspersky, my gaming mouse drivers , nvidia driver, firefox and chrome are the most consume to memory as I open alot of tabs but nothing unusual

I suspect also that it may be a defrag problem so I used diskeeper and it should be the best.

but you dont think using a 480W UPS is dangerous for my PC ?

Are you running Crysis 2 in DX11 ?

Also, GTA IV is a piece of unoptimized crap, when I tried it on my PC with a 2500K @ 4.5ghz, 6850 and 4gb RAM it still ran slow even with settings turned down.

@ SieB

ya exactly !! I was playing crysis 2 fine but after upgrade to Dx11 I found picture tearing !! and yes I see also GTA IV has alot of bugs I turn down some settings and cancel even the shadows !! decrease the traffic to minimum but no use it eat CPU and RAM like hell

After I exit from GTAIV win 7 64bit take some time to recover and desktop icons redrawn again !!

so it is games problem ? what if I upgrade to GTX 570 ?

again does the 480W UPS has something to do with that ? for example not providing enough power to my PC while gaming ?

it's your HDD - windows (by default) uses the some managed-sized ram as a swap drive (virtual memory)

managed VM = pile of sh**

if you still need virtual memory, set the size manually.... condition, size and speed of your HDD can have a serious impact on VM performance.

there are alot of other things like hibernation, system restore, etc, that could de disabled to increase your system's performance.

there are plenty of threads on here that could help you (i wrote a few)

The games running slow are more than likely due to not having the hardware to run them fast even a 580 can't max Crysis 2 in DX11 a 460 isn't enough to run GTA well either without settings turned down anyway. A 570 should be ok it should definietly run GTA IV better and you will get decent performance in Crysis 2.

Your PSU is fine though I used to run my PC on a 480W PSU before I got my HX850 no probs, the slow down when you exit games is caused by low memory if you have anything open like browser etc close them before you start gaming it will help.

^exactly

CrysisDX11 needs specific specs in order to run playable

(8GB of fast ram; hi-end GPU; 4GHz+ CPU; SSD; etc)

The UPS only kicks in when there is a power outage, & then the 480w is provided by the UPS battery. In normal gaming you will get the full wattage of your PSU. If however the UPS is tripped while your power draw is more than 480W then it will trigger an overload on the UPS & will trip the circuit breaker on the UPS (if it has one) and shut everything down.

Your UPS won't have any effect on the speed of your pc. You only need worry when there is a power outage and the system draw is greater than the specified 480w limit.

thanks alot sheroo I remember that when I was playing and power goes off the UPS start screaming with continues fast beeps (instead of beep every short period) so I understand it will shutdown if I did not exit the game and after I exist the game it goes back to normal period beeps

Regarding GTA IV, I run it with my Phenom II X4 955 @4GHz/GTX 460 1GB smooth as, shaders etc are on high, reflections maxed, View Distance at 60 others at 100 in full 1080P, 40-70FPS. I run my games on a Seperate HDD so Windows doesn't take any performance away, that stopped any micro stuttering I got in GTA IV. Crysis 2 in DX11 with high res textures etc runs bad even on the highest end cards atm.
