So, as a relatively decent photoshop person with a programming background. I'm use to seeing pretty epic avatars and signatures on forums, no offence to peeps, but theres none of that here, I don't know if there is a reason for peeps with no sigs, but I fancy attempting to fill it up with them, hence why I put this in the "Serious Discussion" (to mods: move it if you wish)

From my above paragraph I presume people have not requested a signature in this way. So, I make a format (like below) and you follow it. I will hopefully do sigs within 20 mins and it will then be uploaded to an image hosting site, then I'm sure you know how to edit your sig.

the size will always be 100x600 pixels.

i used to make alot myself using fireworks, made over 50 for a guild long time ago, for a Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, best fps ever imho lol.

and recently i picked it up again, but i seem to be a blank page as of now :huh:

Well, the forums aren't particularly aimed at graphics of course, but graphics are occasionally a big part of forums due to the avatar and signature features. So I suppose having a "Graphics Discussion" wouldn't hurt. I would go post in suggestions but I know that TTL will see this post sooner or later.

not gonna lie, i took this thread as a challenge lol

so i spend good 20 mins or so in Maya to create my sig

that wasnt too hard but i had to limit myself because ultimately i had to convert to gif so i couldnt mess around with too complex dynamics or lights.

it took me almost and hour to just convert the .mb into gif lol

hopefully you can see the new sig, i used Maya 2012, sony vegas 11 and Super(wmv->gif converter)

its on a loop, only 100 frames at 60fps, the entire animation was around 300frames to begin with but i wanted to keep the file size as small as possible so it doesnt hinder load times

it seems to be quite big atm, looking at the css code its 600px i think before auto resize kicks in, stupid 40px difference lol

Edit:
no more resize isue but 4:3 576x432 looks totally over sized, ill have to re-render the maya scene to crop the entire animation and to make it slightly higher quality, i wonder what will happen to gif if i include some volumetric lighting....

Tbh, Pr3d4t0r, that sig would be deleted on most forums since it's too big (especially the height).
Just imagine you posting a lot of replies on one page in a thread, that would mean you'd have to scroll way too long to get to the bottom of the page.

Most forum sigs are limited to 120-150px in height due to forum rules

He'd still have 2/3 of the original size if he'd just crop it. (The pieces fall down towards the very bottom of the image.)

thats why i currently try to edit instead of reply lol, ive been a forum admin long time ago myself,

currently rendering new maya scene, with wider view of angle so i can fit more of the scene and also put a simple light to see how its going to look,

will update the sig within next hour or so depending on render/compression/format change.

edit: herp derp, rendered in low quality lol, no wonder that was quick

edit2dragoonk, i dont mind doing you one in spare time sometimes this week(back to college, im sure ill be busy)

also as mentioned before i might make fireworks(super easy) and maya(abit complex but easy step by step) guide later on how to make one yourself, in order to create the one i have you really need a good pc, your triple core and 3870 probabaly areny enough, in mine i have over 400 elements each having around 5-10 faces each so thats over 3000 polygons to render.

fireworks/mx is super easy method to create 2d sigs using layers just like ps etc. on the 1st page you can see my old sig which was made in fireworks, it only has 2 layers, bg and text(customer from dafont), honestly it cant be simpler

there finally done, i wanted to maintain ratio so this is smallest i can get it to be on 720p render you can clearly see shatter marks but after compression it looks just fine .
