Should I Buy A New Motherboard

Hello,

Late 2016 i bought a EVGA X99 Classified but i didn't get around to using it until last year and i have been having some issues with this motherboard where about 90% of the time on a cold boot it will not boot into windows 10 and if it does it's very slow at booting where it can tale about 30-45 seconds, In the last couple of months the debug LED is screwing up so say if the temp is in the 30's the 3 doesn't display correctly.

It does not matter how a install windows it's no different with the boot up i even done changes in the BIOS but nothing works so have i got a sub par motherboard.

I'm completely unsure what to do here, i understand X99 is dead socket now.

My only worry is i'm using a CaseLabs SM8 case and if i got another motherboard it would be an ATX and i hope it doesn't make my OCD crazy.

Thanks

The only EVGA board I ever loved was the 680i. And I only loved it because you could separate the CPU bus from the memory bus when overclocking. It was the only board I had that allowed stupendous overclocks on a Core 2 without having 1066 ram. Which was a big deal, because 1066 ram was usually 2-3x the cost of 666 or 800.

I don't remember the 790i I had that much, but I do remember getting an E2400 to 3.5ghz and being very impressed. However, by that stage it was nearly three years old and had the latest bios on.

I don't think there is anything fundamentally wrong with EVGA boards, but it's almost like EVGA wish it was still the days where overclocking was tricky and difficult. They need to embrace the easy methods we have these days really.

I have an Asrock X99x Fatality killer 3.1 up for sale on ebay ATM, so might be worth looking at before it goes as I've had one offer that I just knocked back.

EVGA has really good customer service.

Have you tried contacting them to see what they suggest?

I was going to RMA the motherboard but i thought with the problems being minor i thought i could live with it but the slow boot up is really annoying AF, It should take that long to boot even with Windows 10.

The only problem that i have if i RMA the motherboard then i don't have a second motherboard to fall back on while this one is gone so that's why i was looking to get another motherboard and keep the EVGA as a back up.

As of now i agree with people with the EVGA BIOS it's completely awful it's not as simple as ASUS and even ASRock, But it seems to me with all EVGA motherboards they aren't for the general public there more for overclockers and no one else. The BIOS design is like from 2008, They just haven't moved with the times.

Thanks for the offer but i will have to pass cause not trying to be rude but i'm just kinda over the Red?Black colour scheme and also the whole "Gaming" branding.

All i want is just a decent motherboard that's not over the top in design, I was looking at Newegg and they have some decent motherboards on sale atm,

If you have the money they'll do an advanced RMA where they charge you for the replacement and send it out first, then when they get your old board back you'll be refunded.

Not sure it'll help but I've done it a couple of times for older GPUs.

I would have find out about that but knowing my luck they wouldn't allow that cause they may say since your in Australia that doesn't apply to you.

I only ever use Asus Rampage Extreme boards as they are

Very reliable and can take a lot of heavy use.

Have just about every function and feature you can imagine.

Very good bios updates and support.

The downside is they are a bit overkill for just normal gaming/use.

All good just thought I'd mention it just in case

If i'm going to buy a new motherboard out of the ones that i have listed which would be the best for me.

1. ASRock X99 Taichi
2. ASUS ROG Strix X99
3. ASUS X99-Deluxe II (This was $350 yesterday but now went back up nearly $200)

I could wait another few weeks to see if the Deluxe comes back down in price, But maybe it was a complete mistake bye buying a CPU & Motherboard when it was EOL

Not much can be done about it now that will teach me to buy a CPU & Motherboard that has been EOL and there are leftovers, I did this with my GPU too bought one and a month later the new model got release, Hopefully i can learn from this but i'm unsure if i can.

I was looking at the ASUS ROG Rampage V Edition 10 but i feel like that motherboard is overkill for someone like me and wouldn't even use half of the stuff on it still it was my dream motherboard but it's the price.

I have narrow it down to about 3 motherboards that fit into my price point, But there seems to be a lot of bad reviews for the ASUS motherboards on Newegg so i'm not sure what to do.

If you have anymore advice please pass it on which motherboard to get cause i really don't know that much about X99 motherboards.

Whichever you can find the cheapest. They are all good, and if you can live with the looks of any of them it shouldn't really matter :)

out of curiosity. Have you tried with just 1 or 2 sticks of memory, or changing slots. Is fast boot enabled in your bios?

Perhaps you have the standard which puts it through unnecessary bootup tests/checks.

I was leaning towards the Deluxe cause of the price i thought it was a damn good deal, I was planing on buy the motherboard through Newegg cause i don't really want to deal with another random ebay store.

I remember watching/reading the review of the original Deluxe motherboard i think TTL said that he really had one issue with the Deluxe was the M.2 slot unless i'm incorrect about that.

Then i started reading the reviews of the motherboards seems like lately that a lot of people are having issues with the X99 ASUS motherboards for some reason like there failing after 6 months or less so i'm really not sure what to do now, Maybe i shouldn't take the reviews so seriously.

For me seems like every time i use a different brand of motherboard i have issues but never really had any issues with ASUS, I know from my other ASUS motherboards that i have own i have got a least 4 years out of them.

To answer your questions, No i haven't try with 1 or 2 stick i didn't think that was possible i thought you could only test with 4 stick. I'm using 8 sticks of memory.

Fast boot is disable & i also disable CSM, I was reading up on this problem on the EVGA forum and i'm not the only person who's had this problem and people on there said to disable both. Seems like it's a common problem for X99 & Windows 10

I had windows installed under legacy mode & UEFI mode and it didn't make any difference what so ever.

Whichever board you choose I would make sure it is reliable. The chances are if you RMAd it nowadays you would likely get the "Sorry, EOL" email I got with my X79 MSI.

So yeah, make sure you pick something known to last. IDK how Asrock and Asus are when it comes to holding replacements, but MSI do not.

Can you get the MSI pro carbon as Asus warranty sux here in Aus, at least MSI warranty is very good here, don't know about Asrock though although the board I have from them is quite solid, Ive not had to use their warranty service.
Also I don't know how good new egg is for looking after warranty either so all I can say is use caution and try and get as much info as you can before commiting

That's the problem right there, When you buy older while brand new parts.

I'm not not what ASRock RMA is like cause we only really ever hear about ASUS & MSI more than other companies.

If i went with a Black/White motherboard is trying to work out how i would tie the white into the build.

I used to be an EVGA elitist think everything they made was the best on the market, After owning one of there motherboards and using the BIOS as of now i completely agree with most people the EVGA BIOS sucks balls and it's no where near the level of ASUS, There is a reason why ASUS sells the most motherboards, I think i just needed to experience the EVGA BIOS just to see how bad it is.

I was reading the EVGA Z370 motherboard thread and it seems like they have learn nothing and the BIOS still seems to be just as bad as their previous gens.

I know i really can't compare this but i own a couple of MSI products back in the day a Motherboard & GPU and i had problems more with the Motherboard than anything else.

Unless the MSI support has improve over the last few years i wouldn't touch another MSI product ever again.

Yeah i know the ASUS support is awful, But i've had the most luck with ASUS motherboards than most of the other brands.

I think with warranty if anything went wrong i wouldn't have to deal with Newegg themselves i would deal directly with the company but i could be wrong maybe a American can chime in and answer that question.

I'll have a look at the MSI Pro Carbon and look at some reviews and go from there.

It's good to know that they have improved their support.

I have been doing some research into the MSI X99A Pro Carbon, I really haven't been able to find it apart from one store which i have never even heard off.

I have two ways of doing this 1. Trying and get that motherboard and just hope it's a good one, 2. Just cut my losses sell this CPU and motherboard, Buy a new CPU & motherboard it seems like to me that X299 motherboards seem to be a bit cheaper than when X99 came out maybe it has something to do with TR.....Not sure.

Buying X99 now seems a bit daft unless you can get a cracking used board cheap and overclock the nuts off of what you have already.
