sheroo - M-ITX HTPC and Pink Cube build in progress

OK, just a quick update. I decided to do some work on the build for my daughter. I got a package that I ordered from ebay this week.

This seems to be the latest fad atm, so not to be left out and thought I'd join in.

The case is covered with a protective plastic coating...

Sometime later...

Now I just have to add some ventilation... 1 down loads to go....

So I thought why not add a personal touch and pick her name out instead.

What do you think? I know its very pink - but that's what she likes....

i like the way used the case ventilation holes to pick your daughters name out, simple yet effective. Looks great mate

It was a labour of love, it seemed like it took an age to do, but you kinda get in the zone. I have yet another "special project" this week, which involves getting under the floor and re-routing some cables - its dirty work but someone's gotta do it.

Another quick update - I cut out the rear 80mm fan vent and drilled a hole for the Pico PSU power. I also used some AcoustiPack to make a grommet to fill the existing hole left by the inbuilt PSU, and yes you guessed it put some black carbon vinyl on it.

I also got another piece of kit, a used AMD A8 3870K that I bought from RawZ for £70 - cheers RawZ.

Cheers dude, pretty much finished my daughter's build now in terms of modding. Just need to buy the rest of the bits, but finances are starting to run low, so I'll have to buy the monitor and a couple of other bits next month maybe.

Nice job Sheroo

. I have a daughter too, but shes still very young, so i need to wait a few years before i build her a pc. Will probably do something similar like you did.

They grow so quickly, my daughter is only 6, but I don't think you can start them too early with tech these days. I'm very careful with the content that is available and I limit the amount of time they have as well. So that they don't end up conjoined to their PC like I am.

Hahaha, you could. Folding is very addictive

Yep I think I've been bitten by the bug big time. I think I'm gonna build a dedicated folding rig around the high end IB chip and leave it 24/7 - I'm doing some costings atm.

That's looking really nice !

Thanks fella.

Hopefully it'll come together in the next week or so. I've just put an order in for some more kit, although the screen and speakers will have to wait for next month.

I was thinking of doing something similar as my 580 is too power hungry and I need it for my gaming needs, so I don't want to hurt it too much

I've worked out that if the system's max power draw is 114W (given that a unit of electic (1kWh) = 12p) then it should cost a smidge under £10 a month to run, and potentially produce 40k PPD give or take. I'd be happy to spend £10 a month, but anymore and I would imagine it could get out of hand very easily.

Also got some nice little black thumbscrews as well.

Added some more vinyl to the pci slot cover and mounted the fan, guard & i/0 shield.

So now I just need to buy a hdd/ssd & monitor - I've already got a suitably themed k/b & mouse.
smile.gif
Hopefully it'll be up and running soon, might do some cable sleeving - maybe.
