Seting up memory timings in DFI BIOS?

I have Corsair XMS4400C25 (2x512MB) memory with rated timings 2.5-4-4-8. I need some advice how to set up timings in BIOS, properly. I have DFI LanParty UT SLi-DR Expert mobo, so everyone who have this mobo know what the BIOS looks like:

DRAM Configuration then u pres Enter and see all the options for RAM. Only thing i'm not quite sure which is which, so could u go easy on my and help set them up. I only know that first timing 2.5 is going to CAS Letency Control, it's mean i must change it from Auto to 2.5 :eh: , but i'm not sure about rest of timings.

Hello there Andy

Right In the bios, the order of the options is a bit silly in my opinion, two are mixed around when compared with the normal layout of quoted latencies.

DFI layout(i use the bracketed initials):

Cas latency (tcl)

Trcd

Tras

Trp

.

.

When memory makers say the latencies they use

-2----2----2---5 or

CAS-Trcd-Trp-Tras

So for you you should enter 2.5 then in the next row, 4, then 8 then 4, see what i mean about the motherboard jumbling them around.

The lower options are of less importance, but can still help, but i dont know too much about them, so ill let scorch or Phil answer that

Rest of RAM timings?

It is a good start for me, but could anyone explain to me what rest of timings mean. Looks like MOBO did set up automaticly some of them, when i 1st time turned on my PC.

The picture is like this:

Trc -07 Bus Clocks

Trfc -Auto

Trrd -02 Bus Clocks

Twr -02 Bus Clocks

Twtr -02 Bus Clocks

Trwt -03 Bus Clocks

Tref -3120 Cycles

Twcl -Auto

I don't have a clue what these timings mean and do i need to change them to get my memory run at best speed or should i leave them as it is?

Well yu can cross reference those setting susing a64 tweaker to see what the MOBO has set the AUTO settings to.

Those settings you have look good for TCCD mate - which I think is the ram u r using. TRFC should be 18 or 16 if it is TCCD based RAM (lower is better but not all TCCD will run) ;)

You can also flash your bios to suite what ram is best for you.

There are plenty of guides on the forum to help with your settings

None of that is incorrect - but using the latest offical BIOS will not void your warranty.

Lots of people like the 704-BT2A BIOS, which is a modded BIOS by an OCZ techie - me personally? I like the 623 BIOS.

The biggest issue you have is that whichever BIOS you decide to use most settings are in AUTO - so it's still a bit of trial and error, I did make a thread with some ram settings on, try searching inside here to see what you can achieve.

Take note of the amendments for TCCD ram further down the thread ;).
