Overclocking issues with 1300X and memory.

Hi everyone. newbie here...

Anyways, Im having a weird issue when I try to OC my system.
Im running a 1300X on a MSI x370 gaming plus mobo with 8gb corsair vengeance ddr4 3000mhz ram.

My issue is, in my bios it says my cpu is runing at 4ghz at 1.375v but when I open taskmanager in windows it says 3.5ghz, same does cpu-z and that ryzen master software.
As for my ram, Ive set it on a-xmp profile 2, and that sets it to 2933mhz and the correct timings, think its 15-17-17-17-35 at 1.35 volts.

But when I then save and exit from bios, it boot cycles 3 times, then boots up, but taskmanager only shows 2133mhz. So i restart my pc, open the bios, and sure enuff. At the top right under cpu speed(that says 4.ghz btw), memory speed is again 2133...
I tried the "memory try it" function on vairous speeds and timings, but it always goes back to 2133...

I never get an error message saying something like overclocking failed or anything when its boot cycling, so I dont really know whats wrong...

Sorry if I posted this in the wrong section or anything, but I would really appreciate some help or clarification on why this happens?

(psu is an XFX 850w 80+ bronze one if that matters)

I just tried to use AMD Ryzen Master again to see if that made a difference. Set it to 4ghz and 1.38v. Set the memory to 2933 and the correct timings thats on the sticks.

It boot cycled 3 times again and this is my results

Task manager says 3.5 ghz on the cpu, and 2133 on the memory.

Cpu-z now says 4ghz on the cpu, but still only 2133 on the memory...

(edit, I have made sure I have the latest bios from MSI)

It sounds like the memory is reverting to stock settings upon post, what have you got your SoC Volts at?

this just gets me more confused.

Just pulled the volts down abit from 1.384 to 1.375 on the cpu. And I tried to increase the timing on the ram to 16-18-18-18-36 with the ryzen master software.

This time my pc rebooted straight into windows, and now both taskmanager and cpu-z shows the memory running at 2933. But the timing looks abit off to my untrained eye

So I just rebooted to check the bios for that SoC volt. And now everything reset again. Both cpu and memory reads as stock on cpu-z

SoC volts are set to auto, but it said 1.176v next to it...

hmm, my posts arent showing :( anyways, SoC is set to auto, but it shows 1.176v next to the edit box.

When a board boot cycles like that it is usually because it is trying to start with the settings you gave it and failing. It tries twice, then reverts the settings back and points you to bios.

It obviously doesn't like your memory. I have seen quite a few people having issues with Ryzen and Corsair memory.

You might be right... But I got the ram to run at 2933 now without bootcycling. Had to set the timing to 16-18-18-18-49 tho...
Did some googleing too, and alot of ppl are reporting the same issue with taskmanager not showing the correct cpu speed. But it did show 4ghz the other day, but then when I turned on my pc the next day it was back to showing 3.5 again...

Right, you had to set it manually and change some bits around to make it happy :)

Have you checked what power scheme you have going on in Windows?

pc is set to run at high performance in the power department.

Its abit annoying tho that I have to start ryzen master software, turn on the overclock, then reboot my pc for it to take effect. It doesnt save the OC, gets reverted back to stock everytime I turn my pc off :(
