Screen recommendation? :)

Want a good screen for my new rig..

I should have:

5ms respons time or less

1080p

1920*1080

21 inch to 24 inch

The reason am posting this is because I rly dont know anything about monitors....

5ms response time is pretty much a standard and "max u can get". Now, alot of brands call theyr monitors 2ms but thats just G2G wich isnt that real thing. Those "2ms" are 5ms anyway.

In my experience, smaller monitor with more pixels is better. Depends how far u sit from it tho. Im on a Acer H233H 23" 1080p monitor right now and i have no complaints apart from backlightning. Make sure u get a LED backlighted monitor. No need to worry about response time since they are all pretty much the same. For the screen size, measure the workspace u got and just take the one that would fit the best. An oversized screen on a desk might become a problem.

What are you talking about? 2ms are NOT the same as 5ms!

Anyway it all depends on what you are doing. If you are gaming you will want something with a fast response time, around 2ms, also a contrast ratio above 50k:1, this will give you better color etc, and 60hz is okay (STAY AWAY FROM 59hz, as small as it may seem from 60hz it makes a HUGE DIFFERENCE). If you spend a lot of time in front of your monitor (NOT GAMING) you will be good with a refresh rate, primarily a high refresh rate 75hz or better (this easier on the eye when looking at a lot of bright white, EX: web pages, word, excel etc.) 5ms response time is also good because it will keep the price down a little bit, and one with a lower Cr (Contrast Ratio) as this will also be nice on the eyes (20k:1 is perfect).

I'll ask u the same thing.

What i meant was that brands that call theyr monitors 2ms are actually 5ms ... its this old fashioned marketing. The minimal response time is pretty much reached already on TN. They are all 5ms. Same thing was with my current Acer H233H. Manufactuer said that it was 2ms and very fast - yet its still 5ms like any other TN|LCD on the market. The 2ms is correct too, but thats just gray to gray wich doesnt seem to be that important imo. They're all 5ms on full color response anyway.

Do u or any of u get my point?
 
there sre some that are true 2ms not 2ms G2G which stands for grey to grey. those are two different measurements. I beleive what he is trying to say is watch out for those that say 2ms (or 1ms) but use G2G those are not true 2ms monitors. But in reality one would be hard pressed to see a difference for everyday use. Might in some games but IMHO its mind tricks.

True.

But, ive looked over alot of monitors and tryed to find out the most detailed specs and i havnt found any that is really 2ms or below. Mind pointing one out for me please?

On the contrary, I enjoy 120hz. I enjoy being able to get some use out of my cawnsawls. I entertain the idea of buying a bluray player for it. I enjoy having aspect ratio correction and being able to fraps in 1280x720 without the image being stretched vertically too much.

Besides, the main selling point is the 3D capability. 3D capability = 120hz. In theory, I am using what's deemed as the main selling point.
 
2ms GTG response time can often be 5ms response time overall for the same monitor.

G2G is the quickest change in pixel colour possible, so 2ms GTG means that 2ms is the quickest the screen could respond.

That's why some of these 'gaming' monitors are a bit silly.

I do think some monitors (the more expensive ones) have much lower response times than 2ms (not just GTG), and I think Plasma screens take a fraction of the time for a response. Its just the way LCD works.
 
Hi. For best image detail you'll want as small 1920x1080 monitor possible. Desktop monitors smallest I've seen is 21.5" (22"). Some 17" laptops have 1920x1080 resolution. If you get a bigger monitor the pixels will be bigger and to hide the jagged edges you'll need a modern powerful graphics card to produce alot of Anti Aliasing and Anti Aliasing Transparancy and Anti Aliasing Gamma Correction stuff to hide them and it wont be as good still.

There are excellent monitors dedicated to high detail and they aren't found at the local Currys PC World stuff and they're very expensive.

Samsung SyncMasters 22" are good and good colour, Dell has some higher spec 23" with a higher resolution.

I've read people get problems with some games with the new LED standard, especialy in dark games and when using a dynamic lighting setting

Ebuyer have a philips 21.5" full hd + 2ms for only £110, the only catch being no hdmi, only dvi and vga. Only 39 left in stock last time i checked mind you
