Scan - Any good?

Well it isn't a problem as long as he gets good rma service. Faulty / damaged products do slip through the net, it's how the company then deals with it that's the key.

So right and guess what they have agreed to do replace it and damn I am so happy with their service.

Yep, always had good service from Scan (except that time they refused me credit, even though my rating is flawless ¬.¬).

Well after receiving the replacement I was actually shocked to see that they sent me another faulty drive. This time when I plugged in the USB, my laptop and my PC reported that there is no disk in drive x. So sent it away AGAIN, and now I am awaiting another replacement drive for tomorrow.

To be honest, after this circumstance I still see Scan as an EXCELLENT e-tailer simply because the RMA process was so smooth compared to other online stores.

Could I ask for the name of the drive?

I wouldn't reccomend buying any DVD drive under the Samsung brand. I know of a couple of people who have had bad experiences with Samsung DVD drives and I'd never reccomend them to anyone else. Can't fault Samsung though, they excel in everything else according to reviews.

The drive is a Super Talent Pico C Gold.

Btw you are very right in saying that about the Samsung drives coz I am going through that with My Samsung DVD Rom Drive I have in one of my old PC. My problem with my Samsung drive is that when pressing on the eject button the tray doesn't come out. I have to have at least 2 to 3 goes till I see success

I had a similar issue, except for me the drive would open and then make odd noises when reading discs and take about a minute to tell you that the disc drive is empty. Went through two of those drives before I switched to an LG drive which has been perfect since.

Yeah LG is very good and also I find Optiarc to be good aswell. There are others such as Lite-on, but Lite-On (correct me if Im wrong) seem to only sell in Retail and not OEM hence the higher price.
