A 6GB GTX 780! With a 0dB fan! Is this too good to be true?
First i'll say this, no, the Strix does not have a magically 100% silent fan but it should be quieter than the average GPU with ASUS' new 0dB fan feature. With this feature your GPU's fans will be turned off at idle and moderate GPU load, only turning on while gaming or other higher load senarios.
This is quite similar in theory to many modern high efficiency PSUs, like the Corsair AX1500 or RM series PSUs, where your system will remain fanless and silent at idle, only making a noise when you provide your system with a high load.
As we can see from the pictures here ASUS have abandoned their CoolTech fan, in favour of two more traditional fan designs and features an all black shroud, nickel plated heatpipes, with a little hint of red at the centers of each fan.
This GPU would match particularly well with an ASUS Sabertooth board if you want that all black look, or if you don't want to go as hardcore with the red as ASUS' ROG branded products.
Lets hope this new GPU from Asus is a quiet as they claim and indeed remains as silent as a lamb at idle and medium loads. Hopefully doesn't roar like a lion in benchmark with the fans not following suit under load.
What do you guys think of this new design from ASUS? Please post your thoughts below.
