Well, the world will find out Nov 14/15.

But I'm completely .... miffed, is probably the safest word to use to avoid a ban-stick.

*Some* partners have got kit, and it looks to me like I'm set to skip this generation just as I skipped the previous.

I've even got dates set on my calender, and justified the purchasing of all the components.

Only a gaming rig to build for and for that it doesn't seem it's going to be worth it. Benching and work is another story, but I don't need those and certainly won't be spending my own cash.

.. I'm hanging out for some overclocking results and some clarifications.

Definitely not buying anything until the next generation graphic cards come out and some retesting is done.

I won't be buying SB-E myself but the performance is still going to be good, totally overkill for most people. I'm waiting for 22nm CPUs, SB-E is still 32nm and power hungry.

We should see some leaked benches appearing in the next couple of days, it was the same with SB just before Christmas last year when they went on sale in Malaysia about 2-3 weeks before they were released over here.

Only 300$ more from K to X...

I bet its gonna be like doubled prize here at home. Anyways if the difference is that small here too, il get the extreme version with a bit larger cache.

Performance is good. Artificially the stats will show some good figures. Production wise the "workstation" tag is completely lived up to, to be fair. But there are enthusiast (which you can get away with) and gamer tags - which, if I'm honest - I really hope the reviews partner results along side x58/68 numbers, cos this is the bit that's winding me up.

Notice the tendency to saying "good".

Leaked stuff will surface I'm sure over the next week. It's hinging more around the graphic card performances themselves, which I can't see boasting anything until we see new stuff. It would be mightily interesting to me to see an x58 and x79 rig testing a... GTX 680, for example.

Agreed and have said exactly the same since I first read these are going to be 32nm. It's still the same architecture on the same process that has just been tweaked.

Would prefer Ivy Bridge over SB-E to be honest.

Least I won't need a new motherboard.

What happened to $583??? DAMN YOU WIKIPEDIA!

(converts to £606.81 at Travelex.co.uk)

Edit: They've got the X79-UD5, and it's priced higher! (about £625 - linky) - this gives me hope that the actual prices will be nowhere near these once released.

not sure if anyones said it but as of not being its a prerelease and very limited quanities , im sure thyey prices are inflated, and you will lower offical launch prices closer to the ones oringally talked about.

While i'm slightly jealous of the fact they have it early, I don't really care. I'm sure that the prices are inflated

what would you guys consider good or bad from sbe?

is it good if it is just a 6 core 2600k?

do you want them to oc higher?

or run cooler?

how much performance do you think the x4 ram will bring?

think they are doing a ocuk where they charge more for something and use the "because we have stock" accuse

in gaming i think it will struggle to beat normal SB but then it isn't really aimed at a gamer imo. if it beats previous hex cores by a noticeable amount in activities like rendering then i will consider it a success

doubt they will OC higher on air or water but most likely will when put under sub-zero cooling as the multi is fully unlocked and you do have more flexibility with the base clock.

ram i doubt it will bring any in real word situations apart from when you are using boards with 8 dims and need more than 16GB

Good would be high overclocks at low voltages with nice temps that are not stupidly hot, the bad would be the opposite. They do have quite a high TDP though so it looks like they will run quite hot.

Not really, but then again it's not bad either as long as there is a massive performance increase.

do you want them to oc higher?

I haven't read much about SB-E tbh due to lack of interest and don't really know what they are capable of but from what I have read they will reach 5ghz on air so that's not bad. Being able to overclock higher is always a good thing but with such high performance anyway it's not a bad thing if they don't break any OC records, they will be breaking the performance records which is where it really matters.

or run cooler?

Being able to do both would be good, this is why i'm holding out for 22nm because of the low TDP and being able to push the CPUs more whilst not raising temps much.

how much performance do you think the x4 ram will bring?

I don't think we will see much if any increase in performance for every day stuff but for benches and ram demanding programs there should be some improvement.

Seems like SB-E is set to be X-58 reincarnated.

Still waiting to see what impact MS' patch for windows will have on BD performance but I think we've learnt by now not to expect miracles from AMassiveDisaster (couldn't resist).

Anything post IB needs to be setting sights on 128-bit turnaround and Quad HTing

Sb-E showed up on the computers store thats just around the corner from my place. On their website the 3939K was around $740, thats Australian pricing, be mindful of that. Ill link it when their servers work again lol.
