Samsung S7 Release info

None of the S7's have a removable battery that's a misnomer but they do have storage back and are waterproof but what Samsung have done is icrease the respective sizes of the batteries over the S6 so the 7 has 3000mah and the 7 edge 3600mah

thanks - fixed my post. :)

Nice. They do look great but yeah the cases for them are a bit of a mongrel. In saying this - I had my S5 in a case for about six months. Now it's naked just like it was meant to be all along and isn't really showing any massive signs of neglect. Six months to go on contract....

S7 looks good - but only because it's Water resistant and has all the S5 features back re storage (aside from the IR blaster I'm not sure if it has that)
The Edge however is not as useful as you'd think. I'm purely basing my opinions on the S6 Edge but there's really a lack of cases that don't ruin the whole thing and the edge isn't as useful as you'd like. Not many apps support it. It does look good but at the cost of being awkward to hold.

The Edge adds nothing but the fact that it looks pretty. The physical bend in the screen has no purpose itself. It's all software based stuff for "swipe in from the left or right", but there's no reason they couldn't implement that software on a phone with a flat screen.

The only thing it actually has over competitors is that you can see by a coloured stripe who is calling you if you lay your phone face down on a table. But honestly, if you lay your £600 phone down on its screen you deserve a kick in the nads. There's no scenario where you can't just put the phone on the table right side up....

The only feature the Edge adds that's actually useful imho is the battery charge indicator. But then again Motorolas with amoled screens do that and so does Lumia with Glance.

It's such a shame that besides the Edge, Samsung has gotten completely stuck on features. They design their own SoC, but in the end it ends up having all the same stuff as the high end Snapdragons. Then Sony focusses on cameras, DACs, having a compact version that's still equally fast as the big one. LG is adding buttons in new places and making modules to stick in their phone, Huawei has incredibly aggressive pricing and pretty awesome service. And then there's Samsung, who don't really do anything innovative anymore :(

The pricing for the S7 is iPhone level of overpricing. The Chinese have them beat (again) and LG et al won't need to do much to beat them.

They're trying to be Apple and failing.

This is one of the reasons why i will not get a Samsung phone it reminds me too much of an iPhone.

Back in the day i own the very first Galaxy phones and i wasn't very impress bye it since then i have stuck with HTC.

Yet to find a phone that really lasts. Over the last 8 years:

iPhone 4 and 5 the same - Battery fails after 12-18 months, Home button fails. power button gets temperamental.

Galaxy S5 - Two batteries, camera constantly failed, Non responsive at times.

Nokia N96 - Awesome except I broke it because I would slide it open and closed as a nervous habit.

I don't know about Europe but here they're all either about 900 bucks outright or on a contract for 24 months but they only have about a 12-18 month usable life.

Edit - yes Rick you're spot on with your summary of the Edge.

tbh you can get better specs for £300 less if you shop around/wait a little. I've never liked samsung's mobile devices.

TBH for me i don't even use most of the features that are in a phone i just find them pointless, when i want to buy a new phone all i want is three features.

1. Make phone calls
2. Send SMS's
3. Internet connectivity
4. Alarm Clock

Maybe my next phone should be a candy bar phone

I must admit I use features a lot - Plex, Streaming video direct to TV, controlling my bluray player or tv or soundbar, music streaming in the car, bedside alarm clock and lounge. Maps, internet. I'd be lost without it.

The odd thing is I hardly make any calls on it.

my iphone 4s died only relatively recently despite heavy use. My old Nokia symbian phone still works perfectly however and I think its now 7 years old!

They don't make em like they used to ;)

The edge is incredible. It adds far more than those gimmicky software features. I don't use them, but I essentially have no bezels, it feels great to hold and use. Selecting UI elements near the edge of screens is a joy. Honestly the S6 edge screen just blows anything else out the water in all lighting conditions. So I'd expect the S7 to be on point.

My 4 has a bulge where the battery should be. Maybe i'm just hard on them. I did have a massive texting habit back then!! I have ancient nokias that still power on. Just don't work on the newer networks

I bought a Note Edge two months ago even though i knew that this was going to be released shortly. The edge screen was a gimmick I'm very happy with it and use the Edge screen alot. also found a nice screen protector that curves and a nice case to go with it :)

i guess i'm too use to having the removable battery and memory card.

I currently have a Galaxy S5 and I can renew my contract next month, the only problem is I don't know what to go for lol I have always liked Samsung phones but I would like a change. I was looking at the LG G5 or the S7.
