Samsung 850 EVO or Crucial BX100?

Hey lads, as the title says, which one is the best to take really?... The Crucial is obviously cheaper, my question though: Is it any good?. Have had my Samsung 840 Pro 256GB for a year or so now and never had any issues with it.

But I've heard some things about the new 850's from Samsung having some issues, hence this thread regarding them both.

Thanks,
Chrazey

The 850 series has no issues. Those are just silly internet rumours as usual. Not that the MX100 is a bad product, it's just that the EVO is superior in many ways. Stick with Samsung.

The 840 Evo had the issues, and yes they were real.

Get the MX100/200 if they are cheaper, speed is the same. Evo's are only fast when you enable RAPID Mode. I know this because I have one and without RAPID mode, it's just as fast my other ones. Even with it on it only really kicks into gear in ssd benchmarks tbh

Yes but that's the 840 EVO, not 850 series. So again there are no known issues with the 850 series.

Such as?...

They perform better and have 5 year warranty from Samsung (Pro version gives you 10 years), where as MX100 only has 3 year limited.

I agree with the Crucial MX100/200, Have you had a look at the Crucial BX100 series.

TBH both are great SSDs.

Though whilst the Crucual is cheaper, you should know it doesnt look very good and its warranty is shorter, whereas the Samsung one looks quite decent and has a longer warranty duration as somone else has mentioned.

Though heres the thing you need to ask yourself. What do you need from the drive? Does it need to be cheap? Look good? How long do you need it to last? Cause believe me, these things will look ancient soon enough.

Well it will go into the Corsair 380T, so won't show anyway and cheaper the better always. But how long warranty do you really need?. I mean, 3 years is a long time and by then you've probably already upgraded to the newer 2TB SSDs or so.

But your right though, Samsung do look nice, IF it would come to "show them off".

Hard decision... but if money were the real "problem", then the Crucial would be a no brainer.

Anyone here that has had both and got any experience with them?...

Just get the crucial as for sure within three years you'll want to replace it and Crucial have a very good reputation for the longevity of their drives and use the money saved elsware

Why are you even contemplating the EVO, is it because it's the SSD that a lot of people normally go for?
The Crucial drive is cheaper and isn't exactly any worse than the EVO so get that.

Awesome, cheers boys! You made up my mind! :)

That's great, I was confirming it was the 840, not that 850. Don't know why you tried to argue?

That's what I said at the start of the thread lol:p

Well to be fair, there was this one firmware update that bricked user's 850 Pro drives as well... Other than that Samsung have been golden.

I myself use an MX100 though, cause it was a fair bit cheaper and nearly all current SSDs on Sata III perform about the same anyway so one isn't much faster than the other. They all seem to nearly max out the bandwidth.

Exactly. Nearly all current Sata 3 SSDs are the same in speed

I recently bought a Crucial MX200... I was contemplating the BX100 120GB SSD, but I felt that I could do more with 250GB with the MX200... and when I bought it I looked at the reviews, and everyone seemed impressed by it.

So I personally went for the Crucial, though not much difference in price from the MX200 and the 850 EVO, I strangely preferred the look of the Crucial and it had great reviews.
