RX480 CF or Vega

I've already got an RX480 in my new machine and I'm curious what would be the better option now the RX580 is out, either:

Buy another 480 for CF if the price drops or sell my 480 and get Vega when that comes out instead?

Decisions..Decisions..

A single big GPU will always be better than two smaller GPUs.

As for Vega, nobody outside of AMD knows how it performs. Can't really give advice on that.

If you are not in rush, and you can w8 few months then it is better to see what Vega brings. It is always better to have 1 strong card that 2 weaker. Or you can just sell 480 and buy 1070/1080. :)

It won't be 2 weeks IMO. Vega will probably be launched in summer, right around the time the Fury X was. Maybe June/July as a guesstimate, unless of course they are rushing and will launch it earlier.

I'd wait for Vega, under the idea that 1 strong card is better than 2.
As for how it performs, again no one knows.

I'd suspect end of May/Early June for Vega.

Thats fair mate, was thinking of whether anyone could say how could 480 CF is from having that setup, I'm probably going to wait for Vega

Nope, The only reason why I got rid of my 780 was Nvidia gimped it by putting 3GB of RAM on the card instead of 4GB which hindered it quite a lot as well as it got retired by them pretty much after the moment the 980 came out unlike AMD who are still supporting and improving the 300 series.

I hope it doesn't get rushed, I don't want another buggy start like Ryzen had

I'm expecting full unveil and showcase about then, with launch in late June or early July

Dont get the 580. See what vega offers but if its just about gtx1080 performance then get another 480

Getting the 580 was off the table anyway, the performance boost wouldn't justify the price after selling this one. If Vega does do 1080 performance for similar price to 2 480s I'd get Vega because I generally see 480 CF perform the same as a 1070

If it's anything like Fury X you won't get one until August too. All depends on the availability of parts. The Interposer was a massive problem for the Fury X.

I think AMD are banking more on Vega than they did Fiji so I think they will not only try and get it out by June but have widespread availability by July. That's what I reckon. And I'm always right. Except when I'm wrong. Which is all the time.

Crossfire 480's is a cool setup. If games like Tomb Raider 2013, GTA V, and Shadow of Mordor were 9/10 games then I would recommend it, but sadly more and more games just don't support it. Nvidia appears to see no future in it at all.

Yeah Crossfire is a complete no no these days. Even AMD have stopped selling dual GPUs to gamers, that's how bad it is.

If it's strictly 2x480 or wait for Vega then wait for Vega. Sadly prices on the 1080 have not dropped to where they should be yet, and even then I doubt I would risk £400 when Vega could cost around the same and be better.

Apparently the consumer version of Vega will be 'launched' at the AMD press event on the 31st at Computex. Although it will be some time until it's available to order. From your experiences, do you all expect we will have enough info. to know how Vega compares to Nvidias current offerings, and a solid release date?

Before you buy a second card, go read up on how two cards perform in the games you play. Some titles offer fantastic scaling, some show no improvement at all and some actually play worse with two cards than a single one.
