Rtx 2080 or 1080ti for new build

OK I'm about to pull the trigger on my new system and I'm caught between buying a Rtx 2080 and waterblock or 1080 ti and waterblock. The cheapest I've found an Rtx for is £700 + £140 for the block or I can get a pre owned GTX 1080ti for about around £500 plus £100 for the block.

I know from reviews that both cards trade blows on current titles so Im not sure whether to get the 2080 for future proofing or 1080ti and wait for next gen.

1080ti and wait for next gen, much like DX12, this new tech will take a good while to become mainstream, and while you will have the occasional title with raytracing or some sort of demo thing showing off your card capabilities, in the real world, you wont be using it that much.

Biased against nvidia's pricing as well but point still stands, it wont be used a whole lot for a good while.

If you can find the model of 1080ti you want then get that. But a new 1080ti vs a 2080 i would definitely go 2080. It's more or less the same performance, and you get DLSS.
And in my mind the ray tracing has to be better than "we think" otherwise it does not make sense to launch it at this high a price :D

It's been mentioned before. I'm 99% sure the price is at that point to push people into picking up a 1080Ti. Nvidia have surplus stock they are trying to shift.

Currently I already see 10s of threads asking 1080ti or 2080? and we are all suggesting 1080Ti, so that means Nvidia marketing ploy is working.

IMO the 2080 wouldn't be much cop for RT anyway, even if it were a thing. Cheapest wins the day atm.
