RGB LED viewpoints

Hi All,

Having not updated my PC hardware for a long while (a handful of years) now, i've not had the opportunity to play with things like RGB fans, strips or anything like that.

Given what I am planning for my new build i'm looking at the Corsair HD120s and strip lighting, and I think it looks quite nice.

My question is, having seen many people express a distaste for the whole RGB thing, is it now done to death? Or are there times when even these people would look at a case with RGB in it, and say "that is nice"? Is the view merely caused by the fact that seemingly everything now has RGB on it (including mouse mats, mouse, keyboard, headphones, desks, etc etc etc) or is there more to it?

I guess i'm trying to justify (to myself) whether the cost for these components will be worthwhile, given that they are (clearly) a "want", and not a "need"... I do like the ability to simply change the lighting of the rig to match/make a new theme whenever the mood strikes me.

I personally like the idea of RGB for the fact that as colour changes in fashion you can change with it or if you don't want it you can just turn it off so it works either way

I have rgb in my rig and white led fans , but i have my MoBo set to one colour , so if you want a change , you just reset it , as there a infinite ways of set them . you dont have to go for the fairground lightshow . It's all personal preference at the end of the day

Please no just subtle white led's IMO they will enhance the other colours in your rig. Say no to "Flashy Lights". :p

My motherboard is RGB but I set it to a single colour. I've been planning a custom case build for the best part of two years and I still bounce the idea of RGB around due to the whole "change the colour when you want something different" aspect.

The biggest issue is that most normal RGB's won't do a very good white, there's always a blue-tinge unless you get RGBW's which not everything is yet (my motherboard certainly isn't).

So it's almost tempting to just stick to white LED's and turn the motherboard's RGB off and stick with a monochrome build; I'm thinking maybe nickel coated blocks and fittings with black fluid.

RGB is kinda like the bird who you shag in private and really have a great time but never tell your mates. It's a personal thing. Tacky, gaudy but yet tons of fun.

I have been using it since around 2008 when I got my first Alienware. They've all had it. It's fun for a while, then you just sort of forget about it. I mean, you are looking at the monitor and not your PC after all.

I do change mine rarely. ATM I am playing Fallout 4 again on and off so I set the case lights to blue and yellow :D

Well, one of the mods I'll be making to the case, is painting it white.

Trying to stay neutral, so that i can change the colour scheme simply by changing the fluid (and light colours) when the mood strikes me for a change.

This. I've never been a big fan of flashy lights but the ability to change the colour as and when it suits you is a very big plus point. At present, I have RGB on my motherboard and my keyboard. Both are set to static and green at present. I've had blue, cyan and orange so far, changing it every couple of months.

I have at the moment all Corsair HDRGB fans, Corsair RGB memory, Corsair AIO with RGB top, Asus mobo with RGB lights but all lights on everything are set to white and a few to red as I personally think it compliments the all black components of the build really nicely, Not keen on having a build bleached out with red, Blue, Green etc... looks tacky.

My RGB mouse, Keyboard and mouse mat are all set to white and red aswell, It's nice and soft on the eyes rather than glaring in your face.

My camera makes it look A LOT brighter than it actually is.

Slightly off topic: how well do the fans perform dice? How noisy? Can you control the brightness?

Performance is really good, Noise is actually fairly quiet, Max speed is noisier but not off putting and brightness goes from dim to VERY bright.

I think if you go Corsair 120's or 140's RGB's you really need Corsair Commander ( and the link software ) to get the most out of them. I have just added a few more and have 3 x 120's at front and 1 x 140 at rear plus 2 140 RGB's attached to my H115i rad. Yes, 6 and I use them as a temp guage for my GPU . They are all green to start and all turn blue when they get in the operating range it should be in and then orange when it gets close to max range.....then all red at 90C .
and then you can just go with Rainbow pulse..........................in the end it gets back to one thing and that is what you want and what you like. And eventually I will get them to match temps of various parts like CPU

It has to be the commander? The lighting node pro wouldn't be enough?

AFAIK it has to be the Commander, in fact you can plug the lighting node into the commander as well and the through link software have control over both fans and lighting pro

I actually havent installed the lighting node ( own it but dont use it )as the fans are enough.......
but one downside would be ..an awful lot of cables at the back of the case but thankfully one of the good points of the 780T is you have a lot of room back there ( never enough but this is about the most generous I have seen )
