Returning 2 970's what should i replace with?

Hi All,

i know this one is gonna get some good replies. I recently got an RMA to return my Strix 970's. So with my store credit i wanted to just go for the fastest beefiest mofo to replace them. I have a 980 Strix in my workstation and it's zipping along very nicely so i was thinking either......

Get a differnt flavour of 980 for my game rig or....

Get a pro card for the workstation and swap the 980 to the game rig.

I'm getting $700 credit so within (or just over that) is the budget.

Oh and i'm gaming at 3440x1440 (or 2560x1440 depending on whether i can afford a GSync monitor in the next couple of months)

guess i'm gona have to change my sig too.....

Why not get an identical 980 Strix so you have the option to pair them together in the future. How much are 290X Lightnings over there, they would tempt me over to the AMD side.

you know what....that had not occurred to me.....hmmmm *rubs hands* so i could sli the 980's later and get a 980ti/titan extra black super dark v2.0 when they come out in 2017 (snippy mode disengaged).

Seriously tho, i am loving that idea aaaaand i could use the leftover to put towards liquorice allsorts (they are expensive here)

Why would you consider going back to Nvidia if they have done the wrong thing? If it were me I'd be waiting for the upcoming AMD 300 series cards or I'd buy a pair of 290x's if I couldn't wait

That really depends how you look at things, If I was offered full retail for any hardware I bought a few months later it would get some serious consideration and they would look pretty heroic in my eyes.

idd JR, it wasn't that i was raging about the 970's but like you said if someone says they will fully refund you and you have the chance to put the full amount to another card....

Ex, I am not adverse to AMD but like JR suggested I can make FULL use of the 980 option at a later stage. Also i'm on the lookout for a gaming monitor so if i go AMD freesync i can't use it with my 980 rig. If AMD would let the world know what the new cards are going to be (and they are awesome) i'd happily give AMD a go and save myself boucoup bucks on a freesync instead of gsync monitor

I understand totally what you are saying and the fact you are getting a full refund does change things up a bit Buuut you need to throw more money at them to get a 980 whereas you PAID for a certain 970 spec that you didn't get sooo why give Nvidia the extra dosh, to me it's like just rip me off but i will pay you more for your other card I'd be pretty ticked to be honest but I'm basically just playing devils advocate here =00=

Thanks for all the input. I went with another Strix 980 for now in the game rig with the intent to either get a spanky new card when Nvidia and AMD finally grace us with their "fastest card on the planet" offerings.
