Restarting

One of my friends has been having problems with his computer for a while until 3-4 days ago, it finaly happened :P.

Well my friend brought his PC a year or something ago, Dual Core, ATI, graphics, ballistix memory etc... Worked fine for the whole year untill 2 days ago, he never described to me the problems he was getting and I have not seen the PC yet.

The problem is, when he tries to turn on his computer he hits power button... Computer turns on fans spin... and shuts off... restarts.... and it keeps doing it over and over, my first thought was loose RAM or card somewhere, maybe loose wiring? But he said his dad has checked that.

He has brought a new PSU today and said it has the same problem, anyone got any idea?... But he said he plugged an old 400W PSU into the MOBO and it did not restart??? but he had nothing connected apart from CPU, RAM, GRAPHICS...

BTW it dont even get to the post screen :o

Anyone care to troubleshoot this problem would be great help ;) thank you.

Ask for more information :) if needed :worship:

Yep it sure does. In fact it sounds very similar to one of the stunts my P5B Deluxe used to pull before RMA. Has he tried pulling the rig down to a bare minimum to isolate the mobo or perhaps even another piece of hardware?

You really think so? But why would it power up and not restart with an old powersupply just plugged into it.

Sounds strange to me??
