Replacement GPU

I'm toying with the idea of selling my BFG 8800GTX OC prior to the new generation of cards coming out.

I need advice on which replacement card I should buy. I had a 7900GT beforehand and that could play the games I regularly play at reasonable framerates (mainly bf2142, dirt, UT3 and cod4 when it's out).

Which card would you recommend? I don't mind which manufacturer it is, so long as it's reasonably cheap (sub £120 preferably, but can go up to £150), doesn't have to support DX10, but must be able to power the games with a reasonable framerate on a 22" WS with some eyecandy on.

Suggestions please...:D

Stretch to an 8800. for 1680x1050 (or 1650x1080 or w/e it is) the 320mb would be fine i spect.

Or wait for a bit, and get the GT.

I was actually trying to avoid the current 8800's as the refresh will make these pretty obsolete.

Another thought that crossed my mind is that my CPU is majorly bottlenecking my GPU, so I could actually chop in my 8800GTX for a 8800GT and it might not even affect my in-game performance or 3dmark score

If u`ve got a BFG 8800 GTX atm, I don`t think there`s anything outside of an Ultra/oc`d/Extreme card that`s gonna be better than what u got. And if u oc`d what u got, with a stock cooler, u`d probably get up to or around their level anyways.

The newest card about to come out, well it`s branded about as being great for the money and stuff, but it looks on the face of it that it`s certainly not going to spank a 8800 GTX.

Now, the card to come out after this new one comes out, that may be a different matter. U got a while to think about that yet tho.

What info do you have on upcoming cards? Everything I saw months ago about "9800GTX" was referring to the G92, which turned out to be the 8800GT.

I have yet to see any kind of solid indication of a 9800 based on a G9x chip, although such a card would not be unexpected, considering the process improvements of the G92.

Yehh 8600 probs the way to go.. or a cheap 8800GTS 320MB.. Ide wait abit before selling it, atleast until we know more about what the next card will be like lol

Point being guyz, he`s already got a 8800 GTX - why sell it atm ? At this moment in time I don`t know about any card coming out that could whip it. Cept maybe a rediculously overclocked GTX, which he could probably meet halfway himself doing his own oc.

Thanks for all the replies, but I've been offered and bought a X1900XT at a very attractive price.

Now, when do I sell my GTX?

Now and risk CoD4 not running well at all or after xmas (and probably lose a lot of money)?

Since you have gone for it you need to sell ASAP, stick it on buy it now for what you want plus a best offer... As the new gen aren't out YET, you should still get a decent 2nd hand price...

Just look what they are going for on ebay, darkord - that made me chuckle, don't think evga will let him step up with a bfg card ;)

Edit: I basically did the same thing - sold 640mb GTS for £195 and bought the GT as a short term solution
