Remote monitor control

Right guys got an odd one for you here.

I'm changing my media center PC to use a 19" CRT Monitor instead of my 21" CRT TV. Was messing about last night and decided the picture quality is much clearer on the monitor than the TV.

Now the problem is, how can I use a remote to turn the monitor on and off as you would with a TV? Will X11 work if I leave the monitor turned on all the time and jst kill the main power to it?

Ideas welcome.

i think there are remotes available that control the mains, best bet would be to link up the device to the mains then to the monitor...
