Registered ECC memory (DDR4)?

Hi,

I was looking at RAM and you know how DDR4 is kinda expensive? I came across a deal in regards to 16GB of ECC registered memory (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SAMSUNG-1...erComponents_MemoryRAM_JN&hash=item2a47f53fbb) and I personally have no clue what it's compatibility with X99 v3 is. I'm currently running 8GB and I'd like more RAM as I'm at max usage a fair value of the time.

I haven't picked a motherboard yet but my budget is £200 for the motherboard so if you know a motherboard that is x99 v3 that supports it please link it here so I can have a look :).

I appreciate the help!

There are some x99 motherboards which support ECC instead, you'll need to look up the specific models usually branded as Workstation, WS or server. An example is this Asrock board:

However you will also need to have a CPU which supports ECC ram or else the system won't even post. I'm not sure which CPU you have but as an example of the range the 5960x will not work, in fact no i7 extremes support ECC memory. You'd have to look into Xeons.

For completeness there are desktop series i3, i5 and i7 CPUs which support it but they will not fit a x99 mobo.
