Currently building a mid level gaming computer for my 2nd build and not sure what heatsink would best suit it. This is the only part i have left to get for the build so needing to get one soon so i can get started. The parts for the computer are:

Case - NZXT M59

CPU - AMD Phenom II x2

Motherboard - ASUS M4A79XTD EVO

GPU - XFX Radeon 6850

MEMORY - CRUCUAL Ballistix Tracer

PSU - XFX 650w modular psu

Fan controller - SCYTHE Kaze Master Ace

HDD - Western Digital 1tb

I think there should be around 160mm space between the motherboard and side of the case for the cooler. I was thinking one of the SCYTHE or XIGMATEK heatsinks? since they seem to be reasonable for the job and are under £40.

Hey there Kkell.

I asked the same question on the post for ( Noctua Nh D14 For Phenom2x4 BE??)

The general consensus is that the above cooler is the best there is. It'll also be an investment and an asset for future builds. It is quite big but is cleverly designed to be quite compatable. It is £60 incl delivery from Novatech.co.uk. (no people I don't work there but they have always been comparatively priced and the delivery is very fast even when you choose free delivery.)

Also if you get it you will be able to use it on future builds.

I hope that helps mate.

The Noctua NH-D14 is deffo the cooler of choice if you can fit it. However with your case being quite small, you will need to measure how much space you have between the socket and the side panel. Anything over 165mm (afaik) will work with the Noctua NH-D14. If you don't have the room have a look at the top down coolers Noctua make (i.e Noctua C series of coolers). They perform really good and are silent aswell.

The Scythe Mugen 2 if you want the best Performance for your money! If you dont plan on excessive Overclocking a Cooler Master TX 3 or an Cooler Master 212+ would be more than enough, too.

In the high End Departement the Thermalright Silver Arrow, Archon and the Noctua D14 are among the best, the thermalright fans are a bit more quiet though...

Think i'll get the Scythe Mugen since its cheaper and still looks like it is decent. I'll be replacing the scythe fan with a blue led one though and another few for the case. Anyone know which fans are best for when hooked up to a fan controller. I was looking at the Xigmatek XLF 120mm fan or the Gelid Solutions Wing 12 120mm case fan.

I would go Gelid Wings personally, they have really good static pressure (makes them good for heat sinks and radiators, or so I'm told)
