[Reborn] OC3D Delidded Ivy Bridge Club

Hey guys. Just delidded my 3770K yesterday.

Now just waiting for CLU and an EK PreciseMount for naked Ivy to arrive in the mail. I will post my numbers here and in my log before the end of the week. My current numbers are 4.3 GHz @ 1.15V with delta temps in the mid 40s but these numbers are for a different chip than the one pictured above. I get worse temps with the one above so I'm really anxious to see what difference it will make!

Looks like Haswell can be delidded too ...

Anybody upgrading soon ??

Im upgrading in about 2 weeks, already ordered CLP and looking into which razors are the best. I heard from a friend who had a friend (...yeah...) that he had his cpu the wrong way so when the IHS came off it damaged his VRMs on the pcb when he was vice-delidding. So Im going razorblade.

Still doing research to find out which ones are the perfect ones. No use skimping out on £5 razorblades when youre working with a £300 processor.

Now I just need to wait untill the paycheck arrives so we can Z87 this baby up :).

im not looking at Haswell as I don't think im finished with Ivy yet.

Ive been away for a bit but im back now! So small update, smoke came out of my rig, which is never a good sign.

The USB cable to my Aquareo 5 fried! it was the one supplied by Aquacomputer.
So as I don't know the culprit out came the Fan controller (Aquaero), mobo and PSU on a 30 day RMA!!!!

No rig for 30 days!!

ANyway, the main point, has anyone managed to separate the IHS from the die after using cool laboratories pro? Mine seems pretty stuck on and I don't want to crack the die removing it. I would like to add more CLP to the die though as I think that I was a bit sparce and I can get a more even temp between cores if I re do it.

Oh, and how the heck do I clean CLP off? Its Gallium!

Any ideas would be great, no rush though, 30 days to wait :-(

Hi Genesius, the ihs comes of really easy after using liquid pro but it is a pain in the ass to clean, the liquid ultra is much easier to clean
and can be done with a tissue...

I've got a 3570k coming tomorrow which the seller on ebay told me it had been delidded....
I'm incredibly sceptical though.

He said he delidded it, re-TIMmed it with MX4 and then sealed it back up with silicone..... Finding it hard to believe someone would settle for MX4 and then reseal it. Maybe after CLP or something,... I dunno...

Anyway, I'll get it tomorrow, have a test and see what temperatures are like.

That's all in my Prodigy though, so overclocking may be slightly limited.

but how do I clean liquid pro off?

I don't know why someone would use MX-4, unless they couldn't get cool labs or were worried about using it. sealing it up with silicone I have heard before, but it need to be high temp stuff. the silicone will cut out much easier than the original sealant so it can be removed and replaced with a better TIM.

That's if he was honest about it all...
He didn't list it on the ebay listing - I messaged him and he told me there...

He said he worked for OCUK and the 3570k was cherry picked out of their batches, and that he'd delidded it and sealed it backup with silicone. It'll be obvious if it has actually been done just from the accuracy of the silicone.

I don't really mind either way tbh - I got it for a good price so even if it's a non-delidded, average clocking 3570k, it'll still have been a decent buy.
He definitely tried to big up his delidding methods to the wrong person though ;)

lol, well you will be able to tell when you take a blade to the IHS.

If he worked for OCUK im sure he would have used CLP. oh well, time will tell.

Got the 3570k today.
I has been delidded I'm sure - either that or someone got half way through and stopped...

I'm getting massive vDrop on my ITX board though - 1.3v in BIOS and only reporting 1.232 in CPU-z. But still, currently at 4.4ghz with a Seidon 240 with temps around 60-65 degrees C.

It probs has been delidded then but I don't think it has been done well. Unless your ambient temps are in the 30s your max temps really should be in the 50s at that speed and voltage. Maybe he left some of the black crap under the hood when he delidded.

Forgot to mention - the Silverstone fans are at 5v on it - as with every other fan in the case.

3770k de-lidd

i have a 3770k oc'd to 4.5ghz 1.3v in bios extreme llc
(not really a good chip) and with a h100i it was throttling till i de-lidded it. Now it don't go beyond 70c that's with liquid pro on both the die and the ihs big difference when i just used the liquid pro and not my arctic cooling mx 4 paste but my temp droped by 35c could not believe it
