Hello folks,
I am in need of some help, I have a Zalman CNPS11X Extreme CPU Cooler, product page: http://www.zalman.com/global/product/Product_Read.php?Idx=442
Which I used to cool my old Socket 775 Core2Duo E8400 CPU. I would very much like to re-use in on my new Socket 1150 motherboard and Haswell i5 4670k, but here is the problem...
This cooler uses a backplate and loading block, which is fine, but the worst part is, it also uses double-sided tape that has to be used in conjunction with the backplate and loading block. (See the above link to access the Manual for installation instructions)
As I removed the backplate from my old socket, the double sided tape fell apart, no doubt, thanks to the heat over the years, as I removed it very very carefully. So, I cannot re-use the double-sided tape.
Luckily, as most of you know, the Socket 1156/1155/1150 motherboards already arrive with a back plate on the motherboard. Now, according to the instructions it does not require the Loading Block, only the backplate which arrives with the cooler. Just one small snag, there apparently needs to be double-sided tape attached to that backplate.
Well, I am sure you folks are starting to see the dilemma? No extra double-sided tape came with the cooler. What I need to know is; if the double-side tape is simply to hold the backplate in place while I am doing the installation or... to insulate it from the other backplate which I will be attaching it to? As you all can imagine, I have no desire to fry my brand new motherboard.
Also, I bought some double sided tape, but I fear the thickness is a little more than the double-sided tape which arrived with the cooler. I have searched everywhere to find the correct thickness, but just couldn't find anything. Thus I have started to wonder if I might not run into spacing issues, that is, if I should decide to use this double-sided tape I bought. Most of you would say "Just cut it in half to get the desired thickness" The only problem is, the double-sided tape will now be single-sided tape. ^_^
If any of you have experience on moving this cooler or similar cooler from Zalman from a Socket 775 motherboard to a Socket 1156/1155/1150 motherboard. I would really really appreciate it, any other alternative method / advise on how I can safely install this cooler on my new motherboard is also appreciated.
