Hi guys :) I've got a friends laptop here with a dead hard drive and im unsure how to go about re installing windows. It doesnt have an optical drive so i was thinking use the windows usb tool. Would i just need to input the product code on the sticker on the bottom of the laptop or am i going to have to buy a new copy of windows? :/

Install the same version that he used(if he had pro put pro) from a usb drive and use the code from the sticker.

Would it be on the microsoft website for download or would i have to find it somewhere else? Don't fancy filling her laptop with viruses etc :P

you need an .iso file of windows and yes you can reuse the key.
microsoft have their own iso to usb burn programm, you can download it, i'm not sure if they offer an .iso file as well, but i am sure you will find one.
i myself used ultraISO for it, you can get the trial version.

lol viruses. if you don't use google to find a .iso you won't get a virus either. but i think you can just make an image of a win7 cd if you have one.

Found one of the windows 7 forums which has all the versions :) I'll download it when I get the new hdd. Cheers for the help lads :)
