Re-Gas/Chilly one/ Baker ExtremeQuestions

Just a quick one on re-gassing:

I am tempted by the lure of super phase change cooling, either re-gassing, or upgrade to chilly/Baker but am I right in assuming:

The fans have to be set on turbo.

The unit (Chilly, Baker or Re-Gas) is considerably more noisey than a standard machII

CPU must be kept under load to prevent freezing.

Plenty of exotic material should be used on surrounding components to prevent condensation.

That fitting and removing this exotic material is at best time consuming, at worst is incredibly difficult to cut to size and fit and even worse to remove?

Would a re-gas take for ages (six weeks)? I can't be without my beloved unit for more than a week.

Also, has anyone considered using larger than 120mm fans on a cooler to improve air flow at a reduced noise level?

If noise levels was one of the higher priorities when considering which unit to buy would you:

A) Buy a Chilly One

B) Buy a Baker Extreme

c) Re-Gas to R507 (although someone in Japan uses R1152)

d) Stick with what you've got because your expectations are too high and you are too impatient to spend the time installing all of the ancillaries correctly

Your fans need to be on turbo or the unit will fail with any of the above units because all would be regassed with R507 however if you are worried about the fitting exotic crap just get a straight regass then it will just be a standard mach2 fitting if you are worried about noise you could fit more quiet fans to the unit as long as it was getting adequet air flow to the front rad and the compressor for cooling

However if you want the best mach cooling get the chilly1 head mod and regass just use dialetic grease front and rear done!!!

Also regass wouldnt take too long I wouldnt think

Interesting point too is my mach2 gt failed with the fans on low because of the heat my FX55 pumps out and that was on idle thats how important airflow is

Thanks Fatty,

The current setting are the rear fan is above normal but front is lower, although I fitted an extra 120mm fan inbetween the lian li face and the front of the bare MachII chassis.

I always check the side panels and they are at ambient or lower, so I think I got good temps on the standard MachII now.

If I were to purchase a new unit are you saying that the Chilly one will be the quietest to use?

Are there any links to piccies as to where I should be putting the dialetic grease?

Do you know what I can use to clean it off with after (just in case RMA or I decide to sell?).

Cheers

They are all as loud as one another but the chilly1 has better performance I think because it is thicker ect also to wash dialetic grease off I use switch gear cleaner leaves no reisdue and dries dry good stuff buy it from the auto shop as for fitting etc I would look through either extremesystems forums or even over-clock forums should have some piccies there:D

The Chilly1 is the best unit without questiion - one customer now has his running at about -55 under load whch is impressive for a single stage unit. Thats roughly 20 degrees cooler than the GT, using the same fans.

Its not that difficult to install and you get neoprene, fitting kit and warranty included - the only thing to consider is the lead time. You're looking at 4 weeks now, due to the fact I've run out of heads :D . They are very popular, I have sold 4 in the last week alone.

Yeah unfortunately for the ST users that are not lucky enough to have the control assy fitted the fans are constantly on turbo.

This is the problem for me as my case and cooler are both placed next to me on the desk, turbo is frankly, deafening, Normal is not much better but the balance is to increase the rear fan to above normal and have the front fan just under normal.

I have to ask Slim, sorry for being so blunt, I have read all of your posts thus far, with the exception of one intelligent question your remarks are below standard to those I expect to see here on the forums.

Most of us here are seasoned overclockers, we all look to each other for advice but respectfully ask that if you can't expand on reasons or apply some logic to your thoughts (a post reply with just one word 'yes' to a post with 3 questions) please refrain from posting until you can add some value.

It's all about sharing information, a sort of brainstorming session or even bragging rights. Sharing your accomlishments can inspire others, even help others maximise their systems to their full potential - simply adding one word answers to someone requests with more than one question can create and enormous amount of frustration to everyone.

So enjoy enjoy the information, browse away even share some of your own experiences - lets keep it real.

Humble apologies :)

My ST is very quiet, if that is turbo, 'normal' must be silent!

Does anyone have a solution for the ST not turning itself off when the PC is shutdown?

I forgot to unplug it last nite when I shutdown... huge chunk of ice on the head this morning.

Thankyou Slim for taking the critisicm very maturely. Plenty of people would have kicked off over less than that and turned this post into a slagging match.

Hi Slim,

Apologies for the 'flamer' was not intentional I just read it again and it was a bit harsh.

An off day for me and one where perhaps I should have just not switched the PC on.

I aplogise unreservedly for my remarks and thank you for taking it all with a pinch of salt.

Cheers
