Raptor or Sata 2

Ok a question for those of you who bench, I am not going for uber extreme as I haven't got vmodded 7900's or anything but what is a better or faster drive the sata 2 with 16meg cache or the raptor with 8 meg cache

74gb raptor still beats even the fastest sata2 drive with 16mb cache afaik

tbh if you dont bench, you wont know the difference between a raptor and a Samsung 250gb SATA2 drive, except size difference - best value IMHO

If you are benching then go with the Raptors, tbh SATA2 doesnt really matter because drives (on their own) arent even close to the limit of SATA1.

If you arent benching then what is better depends on your usage, i notice the difference of my 74GB raptor when i load the WMP library and things like that, and with the 150GB version you should notice it more, but in general light usage you wont notice it much, in which case the cheaper, larger drive is better.

Hi the Hitachi Deskstar T7K250 are good i have done a sisoft bench on this compering it to the raptor and it is just a bit faster but i would say about the same, plus they are quiter and a lot cheeper.

if you`re benching buy I-RAM.

My money is still on SATA2, but I got a few tricks up my sleeve I`m hoping to try soon, some of which dont need lots of money.

SATA2 CAN use the transfer speeds available to it, but for a single disk, raptor still has the lead, I think.

For a price versus performance the hitachi is a better balance, certainly the best SATA2 drive available right now.

The raptor is outright fastest (important for CPC and PCMark benchies), but is pricey and and has a reduced capacity (so what I hear u cry).

I may be purchasing the new 150GB version in the very near future so one maybe 2 74GB raptors will be up for grabs

Buy the western Digital Raptor X 150gb. They are seriously fast!! will get you into a game quicker than any other desktop Hdd.
