Random freeze on first boot

Hey guys i didnt really know were to put this as i dont know the source of the problem but CPU and mainboard would be my best guess

Basically it freezes over and over. its so hard to explain the problem

When i first boot it will run fine, then once i get into anything heavy duty like playing a game it starts to get buggy then will get progressively worse.

it freezes audio, video, processing and everything else for a second then comes back onto running fine. then it repeats this running like 1 second frozen then 1 second fine.

I have checked the temps and everything is normal, fan speeds dont drop which i would think eliminates psu problems, but im not sure? i have also reformatted ran prime for 7 hours. ran memcheck and no errors in either.

i only have this problem on first boot after a restart there is no problems.

i have overclocked but i was having this problem before i overclocked, i can easily reset to default values if you deem it necessary.

has anyone had a simalar experience or have any suggestions???

sounds like maybe the voltages are a bit off then when ya reboot ur settings take hold. Might try clearing the cmos and redoing it all It may not be saving properly but what you describe sounds alot like voltage issues

See i thought that but surly running prime95 for 7 hours with no errors would suggest thats not the problem?

true but I assume thats after reboot?? I'm thinking for some reason on first start it doesnt fully apply ur settings then on reboot they set in

wont be able to reply again for awhile back to work I go lol

i had the same problem before i overclocked but thought it would stop after a while. it hasnt stopped its still first boot every day

Tryed to bios update to two different versions. the latest one froze when i clicked update. the older one (but new than my version) just said this is an invalid EFI file

I have had this issue before and that is what I did to solve it. I think it was the RAM voltage not saving properly in my case. Reseting didnt help though with me but clearing the CMOS and redoing the settings isnt too time consuming so probably worth having a go.

Ive removed the overlock on the CPU the RAM is clocked at 1600MHZ still at 1.5v like it says on the box. I have cleared CMOS and managed to update bios. the reason it wasnt working is becuase the update doesnt work from an NTFS file format so i had to use a FAT32 memstick.

The issue however has not stopped.

Bah, missed your sig (little white writting!). Nice card dude, that would be my choice if I was upgrading!

In that case it might not be graphics, sli can upset booting but you aren't and your mobo/gpu drivers are upto date then they should be fine.

Did this start happening after a windows update? My next best guess would be to re-install windows... but I am guessing a bit!

He re-formatted and re-installed. I'm going to assume it's a PSU or Mobo issue, possibly faulty :/

buy a better PSU and video card it will be one of them + may need 4 GBs of ram
